another newbie

Hello all, another newbie on the forum. I used to be a london courier for 15 years, and unfortunatley got made redundant. I took a job with these guys 2 years ago thinking that I might be made upto full time, but has never evolved. I work out in the rurals with people that are really nice, and couldn't ask for more. But having a young family to support is not easy, especially on a 25 hour contract. The job, well I really like, because its exactley the same as what I used to do (without the van) but still a bit disheartened that I always see some full time contrancted people do less hours than my contract and still get paid a full weeks wages. I have applied for a full time vacancy in the past but was told that I couldn't go for it as I was permanent part time!!
The only thing I find hard is that I need to work 6 days a week rather than 5 to get my wages up as I'm not entitled to help. Haven't really a problem with that, (probably coz I like the job) but would help if I were made up, I mean I always do full time duties and get paid for them, but if I decide I want to take a day off on the rota I'm paid bare minimal, same applies to annual leave which I hate doing because of finances and sick leave (3days in 2years). I really hope things change for me and everybody else in this predicament as I really don't think that work loads have changed.
D2Ds paid at pro rata of £12.88 per week to deliver the lot in comparison to a full timers £20.56 for doing exactly the same, but to make it worse the guys and gals who are not part of the delivery team still get this. Is this equal???? Anyway I'l give this up as my blood pressure has started to boil seeing all this go on, and finding it hard to ignore, the best thing for me is that I have learned too shut off.

Crikey and there for two years I thought I was alone. Who's fault would all this boil down to? I mean the work is there, as my 104 payslips prove, it just doesn't make any sense. I do sit on the fence and understand that the company want 8hours work for. 8hours pay as agreed with the union, but to put people like us into practice doesn't make sense. I know there are a few that " can't be bothered with it" but were not all the same and circumstances should be treated seperately.

Welcome to the forum mate,not let's get something straight,you are being f****d off because the above statement is bollox.
Are you in the union as you need to see your rep and your area del rep asap.
Yes you are permanent which is good,yes you are part time,not so good for some people.
But you are not permanent part time in the sense that you then can't sign if nobody else wants it for a full time duty!

You can sign for what you want if it is available to you and don't let anybody tell you different!
Get it sorted mate.

P Yes thanks mate, unfortunatley I took the advice and ended up in a long time grievence and got upto the court door which I wasn't to happy about, ended up by being told by my brief that it wouldn't be worth going into the court room because I had no seniority and would be. a waste of time, so again unfortuatley I was advised to abandon it. Since that day none of the vacancies have been filled, only to be covered by part timers like myself ie prep and deliver, I'm gratefull for the overtime upto 40 hours but like I said before I can't afford to take a day off as it becomes financially disturbing and causes domestics. So to keep everyone happy round me I just what you call shut up and get on with it

i was in the same possition as you mate it took me 7 years to get made up to full time in a delivery office,i had all kinds off part time jobs in the afternoon and evenings to make up the money. when they finaly make some up i was on long term sick with a broken foot when i got back i found out the bloke just below me on seniority got i had to have a shouting match with him and the gaffer in the office about how it should have been me and not him they tried it on i was on sick so it didnt count BLAH BLAH stuck to my guns and got the full time. Unfortunatly for you this is how royal mail wants it now part timers doing full time duties it saves money when you are on sick/holiday. As Postman said part timers can put in for full time duties when advertised but you only get them if no full timer puts in for it.

it sad to say but i think no one will get made up to full time any more the same thing happens at our office p/t does f/t dutys but when he goes on leave or sick they get p/t money some have came to agrement with the dom at our office and bank hours up so they get it for when they are on leave. but i wonder how good he is to his word that he will to do it hope he does though

Bloody hell, 7 years, I really don't think I'll be waiting that long. I really hope that the industry picks up so I could maybe move on. I was told yesterday in wtl that they are gonna advertise the vacancies in our office, and we can apply for them, and if we're successful to get it, they will "FLEX" us up but ther wil be no change to our contracts as for now ( which I think means until eternity) they will not make up part timers to full timers. Now what was really funny, my father taught me on how to tell a man is lying, you just look him straight in the eye whilst talking. Tell you what it works. What aload of bull$#17. . I really have started to think that there is some sort of conspiracy going on.!!!!!!!
