Re: delivery methods
A Delivery Methods Revision should aim to take the weight off the shoulder by introducing shared vans (Park and Loop) and High Capacity Trolleys (HCTs)
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: delivery methods
we started p&l in nov and so called new delivery methods trolleys. we was constantly being followed by cwu rep and dom checking to see if you was useing it , then the bad weather started 3-4ft of snow , ice no sign of them , unable to use trolleys so you was carrying stupid weighted bags at the worst time of the year and plenty of them finishing at 4- 5pm , weathers got better mails not as heavy being followed again cwu rep and dom wheres your trolley , can anybody tell me you either use a trolley and not carry bags fullstop so when the bad weather starts and you cant use it can you refuse to carry bags or is it 1 rule for spring, summer(trolleys) + 1 rule for autumn and winter (carry bags) any reps out there to answer this. oh since wsm has been brought in has anybody been getting pain in your elbow because im in agony.clashcityrocker wrote:A Delivery Methods Revision should aim to take the weight off the shoulder by introducing shared vans (Park and Loop) and High Capacity Trolleys (HCTs)

Re: delivery methods
I have severe pain in my shoulder joint from pulling trolley, and the pain can run down into lower arm and into the fingers. Have been to Chiropractor who I use regularly because of bad back, and he told me that he had seen at least 3 post persons over the last month with same or similar conditions. Never had this when using bike. Pulling a trolley with a bag either side is not taking weight off the shoulder, it is adding weight to the shoulder as you are now pulling two bags around.

Re: delivery methods
Good point about wearing out your legs. Those of us that use our cars (yes, judas and all that) knows how much walking there is when you use a vehicle rather than bike (and scooter) power. I can manage my bag size but the walking will see be the same - I dont intend to use my car as a shuttle or bike.
Too much weight on the shoulder is a result of our own people taking short cuts in order to finish early and it is also a result of making the walks longer and farther away from the delivery offices.
On the other hand, I have seen the bikers carry a large amount of weight on their shoulder in one single bag on the way to their bike. They do this so that they can cover a large ground before they go to their first bag drop. Some even overload their bikes... Again, it is a result of working us like a kayak.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: delivery methods
You should have an agreed severe weather plan that should include as POSTMAN said the use of the lightweight bags(i think they are now 8kg).worktotime wrote:we started p&l in nov and so called new delivery methods trolleys. we was constantly being followed by cwu rep and dom checking to see if you was useing it , then the bad weather started 3-4ft of snow , ice no sign of them , unable to use trolleys so you was carrying stupid weighted bags at the worst time of the year and plenty of them finishing at 4- 5pm , weathers got better mails not as heavy being followed again cwu rep and dom wheres your trolley , can anybody tell me you either use a trolley and not carry bags fullstop so when the bad weather starts and you cant use it can you refuse to carry bags or is it 1 rule for spring, summer(trolleys) + 1 rule for autumn and winter (carry bags) any reps out there to answer this. oh since wsm has been brought in has anybody been getting pain in your elbow because im in agony.clashcityrocker wrote:A Delivery Methods Revision should aim to take the weight off the shoulder by introducing shared vans (Park and Loop) and High Capacity Trolleys (HCTs)
It should also take into account the fact that deliveries will be slower and normal spans will be unachievable.
There is no way on earth i would be out beyond my 4.10 delivery span so why anyone was out until 4-5pm is beyond me.
You should be informed on a daily basis whether the severe weather plan is in force and if it isn't then the use of the assigned delivery methods is mandatory.
As for fatigue with WSM...tip your trays onto your frame and take small bundles from random areas...that way you aren't prepping into the same row all the time...that's what is killing your arm.

Re: delivery methods
Walk Risk Assessment. Where extreme terrain conditions
Each Delivery Round must be subjected to a Walk Risk Assessment. Where extreme terrain conditions are encountered on a particular walk, e.g. steep slopes or many stairs, pouch weights can be reduced to manage the musculoskeletal injury risks further. Ergonomic studies have provided guidance of 8 kg for greater than 1:12 slopes and 5 kg for greater than 1:8 slopes or predominantly going up stairs. There are several factors in setting appropriate values, such as the number of slopes or stairs encountered and the time period over which the pouch is emptied in delivering the mail. This should be determined through local walk risk assessment, working to the guidance provided in the new Royal Mail Letters Safety Standard SMS2.A2 and the associated WTL&L 'WRAP' Guidance, in consultation with the workforce and CWU Safety Representative. Note: Due to Risk Assessment the 16Kg Pouch doesn't have to be the first pouch on the walk and the 16kg/11kg weights can be reduced to for example 8kg/5kg on lots of stairs, steep inclines or due to individual capability following risk assessment.

Re: delivery methods
fishtank we was all telling the doms that we would be struggling to complete the full duties and there answer was your not trying hard enough and we never even saw the rep as he was out delivering parcels on docket everyday to be fair since this new agreement he just lets them do what they like, when he is sat in there office drinking tea and laughing and joking with them what chance have you got. thanks ill try that and see if the pain goes , im on about my arm not the rep.fishtank wrote:You should have an agreed severe weather plan that should include as POSTMAN said the use of the lightweight bags(i think they are now 8kg).worktotime wrote:we started p&l in nov and so called new delivery methods trolleys. we was constantly being followed by cwu rep and dom checking to see if you was useing it , then the bad weather started 3-4ft of snow , ice no sign of them , unable to use trolleys so you was carrying stupid weighted bags at the worst time of the year and plenty of them finishing at 4- 5pm , weathers got better mails not as heavy being followed again cwu rep and dom wheres your trolley , can anybody tell me you either use a trolley and not carry bags fullstop so when the bad weather starts and you cant use it can you refuse to carry bags or is it 1 rule for spring, summer(trolleys) + 1 rule for autumn and winter (carry bags) any reps out there to answer this. oh since wsm has been brought in has anybody been getting pain in your elbow because im in agony.clashcityrocker wrote:A Delivery Methods Revision should aim to take the weight off the shoulder by introducing shared vans (Park and Loop) and High Capacity Trolleys (HCTs)

Re: delivery methods
Don't you think this could still be quite an enjoyable job?
Not to mention Safe, Achievable etc, IF Management (?) actually applied all these criteria to their Work Places!
Got to admire the encyclopedic knowledge of some of you guys.
No wonder the DIMs aren't aware (or choose to ignore) so many of these guidelines/agreements.
We know that many offices are lied to if their Reps are not up to speed or their DIM is particularly dishonest.
How many of us learn something new every week about what we should and shouldn't be doing? Think it's about time the INDEPENDENT auditors checked out these dodgy local practices. It's obviously beyond the CWU and RM, they're both pulling in opposite directions.
