Change over to Monthly pay
Management will try to get us all on monthly pay, I have no problems with this but.......
I hope the union don't settle for something stupid, like a one off payment bonus/carrot, if we did go to monthly pay
there should be an across the board consolidated pay rise, say 1 or 2%.
This happened with BT back in the 80's, everyone got a permanent increase in the their basic pay.

Well chances are something could be in the mix in the next round of talks.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Change over to Monthly pay
Good lord, I truly hope this never happens. I will despair if the union shaft us with this in a new "deal." Before RM I used to work for a security company that paid monthly. As a matter of course they used to incorrectly pay what was owed for the previous month, and then say that it would be paid correctly the next month. Very quickly you accrued several months worth of unpaid overtime. And all that for £3 an hour. This is real reason RM will push for monthly pay. It's got nothing to do with it costing too much to pay us weekly, but all to do with allowing them to defer owed OT on a regular basis knowing full well that they can go another 4 weeks without paying it. Ad infinitum. Whoever thinks this is a good idea and votes yes for it (assuming we even get a vote from this shower) will come tu rue the day.

Re: Change over to Monthly pay
If we are turning from weekly wages to Monthly wages. I want two months pay in return so we can get used to balancing book. Then get paid middle of month (Say 14th) every month.

Re: Change over to Monthly pay
The last company I worked for brought in monthly pay and we got a £300 one off payment and they also provided an optional interest free loan the equivalent to one months wages to help you through to the end of the month pay day . If you taken out the loan you payed it back over three years . Staff voted this deal in on a large majority . RM employees will probably get offered about £20.00 .
The company I worked for employed about 10,000 staff nationally and geting their staff on monthly saved them a small fortune so think how much RM would save with the size of it's work force .

Re: Change over to Monthly pay
Wiggins has hit the nail on the head. We will get absolutely shafted on o/t payments. Think how bad it is now trying to get paid for overtime, then multiply that by four.

Thirded, its gonna be a nightmare getting any RM pay 'errors' sorted. Its funny as it always appears to be in RM's favour these pay 'errors'wiganpostie wrote:Wiggins has hit the nail on the head. Re: Change over to Monthly pay
Oh please NO!!
Monthly pay equals debt (unless you earn significantly more than a postie). For the first time in my life I'm debt free and I'm quite enjoying it.
Everything that's good about this job is gradually disappearing.

Monthly pay has been on the agenda since at least 2003.I say that as i moved office and it was on the union meeting minutes sheet that was posted on the wall.Cant recall what was agreed/promised/talked about on the subject.

Re: Change over to Monthly pay
They shafted me with childcare vouchers in the same way by changing it to arrears instead advance payments.
100,000 employees all on £347 per week equates to £150 million in wages per month. If you suddenly pay it all in arrears that should make about £500K per month in interest for RM.

Re: Change over to Monthly pay
Here we go again ... moan moan moan ...
PS - I think most of the the new uniform is top ...
PPS - My overtime comes thru correct every week - maybe something to do with correctly filling in docket forms ...
PPPS - Maybe P&L will work for us non-PCOD peeps - QED mind ...
PPPS - I've no probs with my lino - I ask (rather than moan) when necessary - everything works OK - respect either way - and discretion (YES discretion !) applied on both sides ... I'm happy - he's happy.
PPPPS - I'm not Dingo in disguise ....
The sooner large amounts of people start to "get real" ... the more chance there is of making this thing work - 12 months ago I was "outside RM" and I've seen how sh*t it is out there - I got screwed over big style (pension frozen, statutory Government redundancy payment for 25 years service) - this to me is "another chance" (even with a 50% cut in wages) - but reading what I read (and it's not only the "old lags" but some of the newer ones as well) ... we're gonna struggle ... although I'd be interested to know how representative this 'ere forum is of RM in toto ... I'd like to think "not very" ... to me everything starts from the bottom and permeates up (in a previous life I WAS a union Shop Steward as well - which probably helped towards my redundancy) - it CAN be done ... but if people are happier in their life moaning and moaning (and probably taking it all home to ruin their home life as well) let them get on with it ... and help to take the whole thing down ...
Now .. sod it all until Monday ... but maybe a quick peep for a possible "non-moan" thread ...

(P/T - 24 hours a week - always available for o/t - will work day off when it suits me ... like I said "how representative" ?)

Agree with you to a certain extent Red. Sometimes it's difficult to find a post that's not full of Doom & Gloom. However it's human nature to like a moan about life.
This site can't really be that representative, after all there's (or was) 100.000 posties! How many subscribe to the site?
Sometimes I think people just want to, "have a moan" BUT There's also a lot of good advice and information provided to fellow posties who have been badly let down by Royal Mail, Management, Union, Union Reps or Colleagues.
As for these guys bringing the whole thing down, I think RM can probably admit to their fair share of the blame! Remember as well there's a lot of experienced posties who have seen this job go down the toilet over the years, much as you probably did in your previous life, you've got your 2nd chance what's out there for them?
