we need a jimmy hoffa type ...to represent us ..some one who can actually think what they are doing ..and what the consequences of the proposed so called deals ..will entail.

Hoffa, who had been convicted of jury tampering, attempted bribery, and fraud in 1964, was imprisoned in 1967, sentenced to 13 years Following his release from prison, Hoffa was awarded a Teamsters' pension of $1.7 million, ($10803322 in 2009) or £6,731,550.00 delivered in a one-time lump sum payment.

He disappeared at, or sometime after, 2:45 pm on July 30, 1975, from the parking lot of the Machus Red Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Township, a suburb of Detroit. According to what he had told others, he believed he was to meet there with two Mafia leaders—Anthony Giacolone from Detroit, and Anthony Provenzano from Union City, New Jersey and New York City. Provenzano was also a union leader with the Teamsters in New Jersey, and had earlier been quite close to Hoffa. Provenzano was a national vice-president with IBT from 1961, Hoffa's second term as Teamsters' president.

Under Hoffa's leadership the union grew from 75,000 to 1.5 million members so successful was he at improving his members terms by skilled use of strikes and secondary action.
This was very popular with the American administration who's love of powerful and organised unions is well known , and since they were so sympathetic to his lifelong work of fighting to improve the workers lot , it is clearly quite daft to suggest in any way that the aforementioned administration would resort to any form of underhand tactics /misinformation/smear campaign/violence. No conspiracy theory Fish just an open mind that often questions the picture of our world that the Political elite and their fat cat media owner chums spoon feed to the supine masses .
Wasn't there and never met him or his 'best friends' so I can't vouch for them either.
That is an impressive record he had though , building a union of 1.5 million members on the strength of his leadership and the gains he helped secure for the working man. Still, can't think of anyone who might have been threatened by his achievements ?
Angel he may not have ,who knows? odds on he is one now

Anyway, Scargill ( like Hoffa ) was / is a good organiser, and charismatic, and a great orator ( all the things that Billy ain't ) and you can't deny the passion he showed....but it ain't what he's remembered for, is it? And we all work under his legacy as well ....on balance though, I'd rather fight & have the job destroyed through the militancy of a Scargill, Hoffa, a Bob Crowe or an Andy Gilchrist, than just fade away with nary a whimper with the repeated action of conceeding T&Cs by the current leadership.
