RM savings always cost more!
Has anyone else noticed how RM savings always cost more in the long run. Here are a few examples, feel free to add your own.
1) Signed for labels. The small sticker has gone. Takes longer to write down the code on the P739.
2) P739 new design. Not much space to write item number on them (see number 1). More than two codes and you need to use another card.
3) Pockets on new uniform. Useless. Spend ages trying to find pen and cards to write out notice left.
4) Pockets on new uniform to small. Things keep falling out. Like van keys, which you dont discover until the back door is shut with them inside!
5) No overtime on Mon & Tues. Stuff comes back which then adds to the next days workload.
6) Pocket on trousers. On wrong side (unless lefthanded). Spend ages trying to reach across to it. Could always put mail down & watch it blow away!
7) Cant claim Weds & Thurs. Not allowed as they say we finish early Mon & Tues. See number 5.
This is just some of the small stuff which will have someone who has never done the job rubbing their hands in glee at the supposed savings being made. Dont even get me started on the big stuff.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You don't have to do it but there is a 'swings and roundabout' mention in the agreement.
You can if you wish work 30mins later on a wed and get the 30mins back on a thur in the same week.
Because you happen to finish early on a tuesday does not mean you owe them hrs.

Local Agreements = Lying Scumbag Managers.
Sorry Apologies to any Honest, Hardworking Managers (who may not be lying scumbags) we're always glad to hear your points of view.
Has any DIM ever had the balls to put their heads above the parapet, even anonymously?

yeah royal mail really are just thick. they are the equivalent of someone who drives 100 miles out of their home town to buy petrol at 2p cheaper. thus actually spending an extra 25 quid when only saving a pound.

Re: RM savings always cost more!
In my humble opinion, I believe that "the powers that be" many of whom have little or no experience of being a postman on the ground are trying to increase profits by making cuts rather than improving the service we provide.
* In my unit (a rural spdo) we are constantly berated for booking pressure overtime yet in the same breath hassled to break off and get special deliveries delivered before 1pm. In doing so, many more miles and time are added to the delivery. If Royal mail makes us start work 2 hours later than we did 2 years ago, surely it makes sense to put back the special delivery due by time.
* We are no longer able to hold unofficial keepsafes for our customers as it is seen as lost revenue for Royal Mail. Why then do we deliver unofficial redirections free of charge. Re-handling these items costs money and time and as they are not in the redirection bags they are all handled individually. I would suggest a surcharge on unofficial redirections similair to that on postage defficient items.
* Redelivery of items is also not charged. I would also suggest a surcharge on this. Postage is paid to deliver an item once, not as many times as it takes to find someone at home.
* Personally I'm sick and tired of being quoted the Royal Mail Charter, I firmly believe that a Monday to Friday delivery would transform the company, 2 salaries could be released from my office alone and put to better use in a mail centre so avoiding the nothing to do days we normally endure on a monday and tuesday

Re: RM savings always cost more!
I wasn't on about 2 people losing jobs, but staffing mail centres properly. I'm told there is a total skeleton staff in the mail centre at the start of the week. I find it ridiculous to have quiet days at the start of the week and then be expected to pick up the slack later on in the week... and not to be allowed to book overtime due to the swings and roundabouts sysem.POSTMAN wrote:And you started off so well.I firmly believe that a Monday to Friday delivery would transform the company, 2 salaries could be released from my office alone and put to better use in a mail centre so avoiding the nothing to do days we normally endure on a monday and tuesday
