24 hour perm,,30 hour renewable,,,
Seem to be a load of new starters coming on here with 30 hour renewable contracts. Have RM abandoned the 24 hour permanent contract recognising the labour market is so tipped in their favour they can bin people when they want,,,(what with mail volumes falling !!) Yet on the other hand this seems to indicate a tacit acknowledgment that 30 hours are needed to at least have a fighting chance of an office running properly (with the option to get rid later of course)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Regarding P&L 24 hr contracts are working at our office . They are working 3 x 8 hrs days . One week they work mon, tues and wed the next week they work thurs , fri and sat . When they are on their days off the duties are covered by more 24 hr contract posties . They work 6 days on then have 6 days off with a Sunday in-between , a good little number .

I've never quite understood the 'part timers doing full time walks thing'.spoodoo wrote:we have loads part timers doing full time walks just now, none of them go on the sorting ,weve lost loads of experienced full timers in last cpl months,NONE have been replaced! I'm now a part timer doing a walk. I am on 30 hrs ( 5 x 6hr days).
Is a 'walk not a 'walk'. The deal surely is that the duties like mine , do not allow enough time to prep etc (and yes I do it all!!!)
SO, the upshot is that you get out late and cannot complete. It's not possible that if your first letter is nearly 10:30 and the finish time is 13:30... ipso facto , you are screwed.
But this is the way forward. Apparently.
I await to be convinced (and funnily enough my Linos do as well)

Ohhh that is sneaky - basically you get 1 full time worker out of 2 part timers with the attendant savings on holidays, sick etc, and as a double bonus you have 2 people probably willing to come in on days off to earn extra money - sneaky.skull wrote:i can imagine 24hr contracts will be phased out.park and loop just dont work on a 24hr contract.

Our 32 hr part timers don't go on IPS they say they don't have to , I don't know if they have a legitimate argument ? . There again we have people all on different contracts who seem to think they are exempt from doing d2d's and IPS and the managers just let them get away with it .spoodoo wrote:we have loads part timers doing full time walks just now, none of them go on the sorting ,weve lost loads of experienced full timers in last cpl months,NONE have been replaced! They do have a legit arguement. They are not employed to do IPS.skull wrote:Our 32 hr part timers don't go on IPS they say they don't have to , I don't know if they have a legitimate argument ? . Nobody is exempt from D2D's. They are part of the workload. Managers need to get real

Yes full time work being covered by part timers , and the majority of them part timers wanting a full time job . At a guess I would say over 50% of our part timers are working more than 40 hrs a week , so RM are basically ripping them off .

I've lost count how many times I've gone in after my day off and the d2d's haven't been touched the previous day . I do my 1/6 th a day so what's left at the end of the week isn't my problem . Sometimes there are genuine reasons why they weren't done .hampshireman wrote:They do have a legit arguement. What constitutes a genuine reason for mail to be withheld, (D2D are live mail). The only reason I can think of for them not to be delivered is either the Duty Holder / Manager has not provided a listing / schedule showing what 'has been' or 'is to be' done. As long as you, 'The Duty Holder' have documented the schedule for that duty, there is NO GENUINE reason, only lazy staff and the management of them, or just lazy Managers.skull wrote:I've lost count how many times I've gone in after my day off and the d2d's haven't been touched the previous day . Re: 24 hour perm,,30 hour renewable,,,
In theory, when our depot went to a 6-day week D2D schedule last summer, the prep and delivery is supposed to be done by columns (two leftmost on Monday, third on Tuesday etc.). However, many walks in my section including my own have a "local agreement" with the "double-prepper" and the normal "day-off cover," which means this columns idea is scrapped and D2Ds are usually down by complete roads or sides of roads (odds/evens).Himaggen wrote:What constitutes a genuine reason for mail to be withheld, (D2D are live mail). The problem comes when someone different steps in to deliver the mail, even if its just a cut-off. Anything that does not follow the standard columns can be legitimately left behind by the postie and the walk holder will be accountable for those undelivered D2Ds upon their return, the "willful delay" will be landing squarely at the duty holder in such circumstances.

Re: 24 hour perm,,30 hour renewable,,,
Genuine reasons to me would be posties being put on the duty who have never done it before , who don't want to or can't work overtime and if they are not 100% due to illness . So in them situations d2d's will be at the bottom of the priority list and would fail . In these circumstances it's up to the managers to get it sorted but they haven't got the manpower .Himaggen wrote:What constitutes a genuine reason for mail to be withheld, (D2D are live mail). TB not sure how you get one full time worker out of 2 part time workers as they are covering 6 days not five. Where are the savings on holidays as there entitlement would be 4 x 3 day weeks per year each plus a little bit on top.
