pt vs ft seniority

We have been told that a number of walks will be reserved for pt staff. This i cant understand all walks are planned to be 4.19 hrs long so what difference does it make what walk your on if you are part time or full time walks should be picked on seniority period. I think it smacks seniority in the face when you have 30 years service and someone only has 6 months in and they can pick a duty over you does anyone know the ins and outs of this or even if this is correct?

its rubbish ,ive bin in rm a lot of years still a floater(ie piece of ,,,), guys just in the door a few months,all got cushy regular walks!!

The duties put aside for part time will not include sorting eg.9.30 start frame prepped and nearlly ready to go(ha ha). Its another way of trying to get full time staff to go part time.

If that's the case then there should be no need to reserve walks for part timers,what has the rep said about it.

If you are doing park n loop are the duties in sets of 2?

we are told that it was agreed out of our office higher up the cwu chain this should be done as an individual office aggreement. Not all the walks are in vans as most of the duties start and finish within a mile, but again all duties are planned at 4.19

Well it may seem strange but it is a juggling act to keep full time posts and part time posts in proportion with the IWT when you go into DM. You don't want to lose full time posts if you can avoid it and the hours are agreed usually with the rep as to what the IWT will support. Our part timers do full duties 3 days a week which is every Thu, Fri & Sat in some instances and in others a part timer is paired with a full timer on P&L who throws off two deliveries. There are a number of different configurations but it really does depend on your office hours and so some duties have to be sort of "ringfenced" in order to accomplish this and this may impinge of PT/FT seniority.

Its not a repick used to be, 22hrs 25hrs 32hrs 40hrs contracts,non drivers/drivers what ever way you look at it someone will be left with the sh-t! seniority or not, My advise learn to drive.

The Union and particularly the London Divisional Committee have always been very vocal in their defence of seniority.
Both have gone very quiet on the subject lately.

Isn't it all just turning into what Royal Mail wanted in the first place?...to be able to remove seniority altogether and replace it with their idea of "best fit" or suitability.....
