Just been offer role of OPG on a fixed term contract of 3 months for 30 hrs. What is a OPG originally applied for a driver collectors job also try to order uniform before my start date but need payroll number etc but still have to go for induction later this month.

What is the likelihood of the contract be renew and for how long will it be renew ? is it a good firm to work for?

i dont have my own car but wish i did would mean i woudlnt be standing waiting for bus's and wouldnt need to stand at box's taking mail out of bags every day id also have a car to go sit in if it was raining .

So u will be taking car into office?

U will have to then go back to office to get it ...

U dont have to use your own car but i guess there just handy in ways - if your not proved with a van - which i doubt

you will get a lift to your walk in a kind of mini bus that a driver with packets is using ... and then your on your own

But your walk should be desined in such a way that you dont need your car to complete it

If your office is not far from where you live could you get there without using your car?
That would be less pressure for you.

All delivery revisions will be planned on the basis of no use of private cars. Private cars on delivery will cease upon the deployment of a Delivery Methods revision in a unit.

First off i would give up on your uniform, your manager will order it eventually and it will probably never arrive or be stolen when it does arrive! Ive been with RM for 8 months now and i have recieved NOTHING! Contracts are likely to be renewed every 3 months for 3 months at a time to keep you in check. RM doesnt like their staff to get too comfortable.

You might be lucky and get into a delivery office that is decent but more than likely it will be proper sh**. You will probably be subjected to harrassment, forced overtime and blatantly manager dishonesty at every turn! Welcome to the madhouse

Its all going to depend on the withdrawal of the Royal Mail insurance bond. When this is withdrawn you will be un-insured driving from the office to your delivery carring mail. If you have an accident or get stopped by the police you will not have the correct insurance and thus prosecuted accordingly

As others have said start as you mean to go on and dont use your car as it is really not worth it. Would you go to work for Tesco and then deliver my shopping in your car on your way home, of course not so you get the idea

There is plenty of advice on here for new starters so spend an hour and trawl back through the threads. Just make sure you rest up when not at work as the miles add up by the end of the week.

There's 40 OPGs in our section, about 75% of whom use their own cars or are taken out by mates. I imagine It's roughly the same for the rest of the DO with about 200 OPGs , and only a handful (excluding van drivers) return to the DO at the moment.

Anyone else had changes on a similar scale with P&L?
