Are the Press allowed to take photos of posties

Post by Eric Cantona »

I have put a article on the news forum today about junk mail been delivered to customers homes. It shows a young blonde post girl in the photo and she looks as though she has been caught unaware. Is Bruce Adams (Name on photo) allowed to do this for the Daily Mail.
I was under the impression that one can only take photos in a public event and not by zooming in from distances which it looks like to me, this is like stalking, anyone know the girl? Which office etc or area could she be from.
I Don't think this should be allowed. If someone took a photo of you on your bike and you had no helmet on what would happen as the evidence is there for all to see.

Just done a bit more detective work here. In the photo above which I copied at 1pm I notice the Daily Mail has cropped the number plate out from the photo at 6 am this morning. That's telling you something...

It my understanding that you are allowed to take whatever photos you like in a public place! Thats why you get all these perfectly legal pictures of topless celebs as long as they are on a public beach there is nothing they can do!

The crop isnt really suspect as there ar rules against displaying number plates in papers and on tv etc. Think this is to stop crooks cloning random number plates they see in the public domain? you often see on tv number plates on tv blurred out for the same reason i guess.

The problem, apparently, with the current law is not that the taking or even publication of a photograph without the subjects consent is unlawful, but the intent when actually using the photograph.

In essence as she was in a Public Place carrying out a Public (as in not private) act, and the paper used it on a story about Royal Mail then no illegal act has taken place.

There is a weboste, not sure how old the article is though, that explains it a bit better than I have. It is quite a long article though. http://www.fsilaw.com/sitecore/content/ ... heels.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We've seen loads of pics on here of posties that if their managers wanted to be funny they could get pulled for,no helmet,no hi viz,wearing trainers and the like.
This pic to be fair shows 2 possible things...
1:She is going to the drivers door to get in with the bag
or
2:She has just got the bag out of the back and is walking round (the long way) to the post box to empty it.

Possibly 3:She's spotted the scrote photgrapher and has stopped and is looking at him.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
