Re: help dda act
I'm in a similar frame of mind. I have a medical condition covered under the DDA and returned to full time deliveries a couple of months ago. At the moment I'm completing my float rounds because I'm using my car and know how to split them up so that I'm not carrying heavy mail pouches, but I'm not as 'fast' as I was before and regularly finish over my time. With the park and loop shared vans coming in soon I don't think I'll be up to the standard they require (walk speed, finishing times) but I have been told that I could go on a rural or shopping park round in the area section I'm currently in. But in/before the resign would I be able to say that I'd like to switch sections and cover similar rounds?

Re: help dda act
what i believe should happen is those who are covered by DDA should get duties given to them before the resign is started.

Re: help dda act
And they also shouldn't be expected to provide their own equipment, to enable them to do that job.
RichEnigma should have been provided with a van, instead of being expected to use a private car!
But getting back to the original question: If you need a particular duty, because of a disability (covered by the DDA). Then unless there's someone else who needs it more (e.g. worse disability), you should get it. Regardless of who else applies. If there are 2 or more of you, with the same needs, going for the same duty. Then I don't know how that's resolved. Although I assume it'd be done on seniority.

There are supposed to be set duties set aside for `specialist` jobs like the locker and there are supposed to be so many duties set aside for DDA cases, are you saying that this colleague of yours is not going to get a duty and if not please explain why not?enzio wrote:still not sure how i am going to sort this out for the postmans covered under dda the resign is not far away maybe i should phone london for help as no one seems to have answer to this thank for the help all

Re: help dda act
Royal Mail have a responsibility to make reasonable adjustment for any employee who would be covered by the DDA. Each employee will have different needs, some may require indoor duties, others may require special equipment and others may have to have a delivery on the flat with no steps. Royal Mail during a re-sign should withdraw duties that are suitable for any member that needs specific duties under the DDA. You will probably get more p hassle off other members of staff than you will off Royal Mail.

Re: help dda act
no, what i mean is that if there was a duty that someone under dda was more suited to, then should they get that duty over a senior person? because i got told by area rep that any one under dda should pick ten dutys and that the last duty would be ring fencedGeneral Mannerheim wrote:There are supposed to be set duties set aside for `specialist` jobs like the locker and there are supposed to be so many duties set aside for DDA cases, are you saying that this colleague of yours is not going to get a duty and if not please explain why not?enzio wrote:still not sure how i am going to sort this out for the postmans covered under dda the resign is not far away maybe i should phone london for help as no one seems to have answer to this thank for the help all

Re: help dda act
See Andy's excellent post above regarding the situation,in an ideal world the DDA guy would get the job if he was more suitable for it over a senior man,but RM has always gone off seniority and you just know it would `kick off`if you tried to enforce it.enzio wrote:no, what i mean is that if there was a duty that someone under dda was more suited to, then should they get that duty over a senior person? because i got told by area rep that any one under dda should pick ten dutys and that the last duty would be ring fencedGeneral Mannerheim wrote:There are supposed to be set duties set aside for `specialist` jobs like the locker and there are supposed to be so many duties set aside for DDA cases, are you saying that this colleague of yours is not going to get a duty and if not please explain why not?enzio wrote:still not sure how i am going to sort this out for the postmans covered under dda the resign is not far away maybe i should phone london for help as no one seems to have answer to this thank for the help all
but i said what if there is not ten suitable dutys in the office ,then what happens??
Also IF there are NO duties that your colleague can do then they would either have to redploy him elsewhere or offer him IHR.

Re: help dda act
anybody that is covered under dda takes priority and you should sort there duty out first, that duty then gets ring fenced before a re sign happens ,the most senior postmen will be pissed if this duty is one they wanted but that's the way it goes.

Does this apply to Family friendly as well? Say in a re pick all DDA & Family friendly's Pick all the night's RM are going to have to pay a lot of pay protection out, can't see them likeing that one.

Re: help dda act
Exactly sheff postie...RM are far more likely to amend duties to suit individual dda and FF cases rather than allow a priority pick.sheff postie wrote:Does this apply to Family friendly as well? If you have 3 dda cases going for 2 duties...who gets priority?,after all you can't use seniority as you've already overridden that and you can't use level of disability because you are delving into the murky waters of discrimination.
You will most likely pick a duty...and that duty will be amended to suit your needs.
It is the most sensible solution...if it's done properly...that's where the problem lies.

Re: help dda act
An added benfit to Fishtanks position is that the unscrupulous would not be able to claim DDA in an effort to keep their current duty be it an easy one or not, or perhaps just that they don't like change.fishtank wrote:Exactly sheff postie...RM are far more likely to amend duties to suit individual dda and FF cases rather than allow a priority pick.sheff postie wrote:Does this apply to Family friendly as well?
