CSS Operators

Any CSS Operators on here and especially with Supervisors rate.

There are two aspects I am interested in:

How are your shifts arranged, start time, time on/off the machine and as a supervisor did you have to take a test?

Any advice to prospective operators?

I am not a supervisor just an operator. We have a proper line manager in charge. I think you just get£30 more to be in charge if you are a postman, which for all the mither you will get just is not worth it in my view. Try to insist on getting a proper line manager. The hours are 4 ten hour shifts 23.30-09.30 with rotating days off. It's hard work and if the machine is running for 4 hours you only have 10 mins off it. There is pressure to reach OEE targets and to input the days data each day AND when the early shift managers come in they will mither you to prep and deliver walks for them too! Still it beats walking, just, but it does not suit everyone. I don't think you need to pass a supervisor's test, just the CSS operator test. Let us know what you think of it all 6 months into it.

TBH, I'll only just about get 6/7 months in before I retire, so I haven't a great deal of time to love it or hate it. I am sure it will be a new challenge and one that will require a certain amount of "swings and roundabouts"........there hasn't been a detailed plan as to what will be the role of the operators yet and the training hasn't been carried out so none of us are aware of the requirements. I was hoping to pick a few tips up so that the teams will have a heads up and be able to ask serious questions and not be fobbed off with being played against other offices.

You came off the 'foe' list ages ago, I'm surprised it took you so long to figure that out (I suppose you couldn't just plug your laptop into the machine and have it tell you), the comments about the engineers came from them -they say their office is J7 which happens to be the coffee area of the MC

Probably not, but when everything's running smoothly and they're having a tea break, it shows they've done a good job.Wouldn't be much good good if they were fixing breakdowns all day every day.
