Pleased our leaders dont have ideas of granduer and are solid socialists

CWU Accounts 2009

Please find attached the CWU Accounts for 2009. We are now able to publish these accounts following their full and detailed audit by our professional auditors Chantrey Vellacott DFK (please note that the accounts are exclusive of Branch accounts).

Branches are now invited to submit any questions against the accounts. Questions must be addressed to the Senior Deputy General Secretary and received by no later than 17.00 on Monday the 17th May 2010. Questions may be sent by e mail but must be addressed to sdgs@cwu.org. (Emails sent to any other email address may not be picked up in time to be answered within the appropriate timescale).

Responses to questions will be circulated to Branches on the site of Annual Conference 2010.

The final accounts, including all Branch accounts, will be forwarded by e mail to all Branches as soon as they are available.

It's an EU regulation, they have to be supplied and you know how we like to implement those rules

Rubbish !! Not true I have seen the accounts and department budgets and no officer has a car bought for them let alone a number plate.

I have no problems with discussing the pro and cons of being in a union but lets keep it factual. Fishtank is right the union needs to reduce what it spends due to reducing membership in both BT and Royal Mail due to mail centre closures , Post office closures , RDC and VOC closures and delivery revison and a pensions deficit.

However there are different views on how the unions money is spent some like myself want the money to be spent first and foremost ensuring we have a strong industrial union including helping local reps with training etc. Others believe we should move away from a strong workplace union to a campaigning union on such things as education , equal opps and organising members outside of Royal Mail and BT.

Dingo, the only way to get a strong industrial union and to help local reps is to educate them, Alvescot must stay! the education which i have received from the cwu has helped me be the rep i am today.

Why instead of having an TUC accreditation course often given by someone who has never done a revision in his life in a delivery office can we not have training on the IWT , training on geo route , training on delivery methods , training on how to get the model week , how to plot walks and loops. This is what we need to build to help local reps. This training needs to be given by people who know about these things instead of someone who has read a brief.

Last year the union had 2000 courses but some people went on 3 or 4 courses , some are doing degrees and whilst I support that , the priority must first and foremost be to train local reps in the workplace as most cant or dont want to travel to a place in Oxfordshire or in Bournemouth.

To be fair dingo can't argue with that, some reps do abuse the courses to get out of doing there job, with the course being not much use to them in their roll as rep. One of the biggest problems i and other reps find is getting release to do course which will benefit us and the lack of local courses which are avaliable, but with local courses i can't see royal mail letting say 10-15 local reps all having release all at the same time. it's the same as this meeting on the 16th to discuss the docuement, how many local reps do you think will be there, not many, as they will not beable to get the release.
