Re: Advice needed
First advice is...don't listen to your manager...he's a tool.
It is simply a case of overpayment...at the very, very worst case scenario you would pay 10% of your wages until it was paid off...sacking ffs!
Read this...it's Royal Mail's agreed overpayment recovery procedure,speak to your rep and make sure it's followed to the letter. http://www.cwuglasgowdistrictamal.co.uk ... yments.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Advice needed
ok, plase post the "basic pay" hours and ££££ at the top of you wage slip and im sure somebody will be on the same wage.
sound like your manager is having you over.
when both me and the guy i work with first bought 6weeks leave we thought that we were getting it for nothing.
it all turned out that it only slightly adjusts the top line of pay and in no other way shows on your pay slip.
as for owing 20 days
if you havnt paid for the leave then you owe the money but it will have to be deducted in small amount over a year or something simular, however i would bet that you have paid and your DOM is trying it on.

Do not work your rest days. Ask your staffing manager who sorts annual leave why he/she has been allocating you the extras. There is a contract that you sign to aquire the extra days, your staffing should be aware if you are contributing. Take your case to at least area rep level. You will need to pay the time back but on much easier and fairer terms than your manager wants. Personally I would be looking at paying for the leave already taken over a number of years the timescale being agreed between yourself and RM. Never ever ever work for nothing.
Wonder if your lino has mentioned his balls up to your DOM.

Re: Advice needed
NO NO NO!!!!
it wouldnt even be your DOM dealing with it.
royal mail have a division called HR and they would contact you regarding this.
i can tell you are upset and i would advise that you call in sick tomorrow and visit your GP explaining the whole situation.

Re: Advice needed
You owe RM no annual leave back.
But you do have to pay back the overpayment.
You should of got a letter from HR explaining the case and what the overpayment was and will probably have 3 riddiculous options on how to pay it back ignore these options.
Ring the number on the letter or HR and arrange a repayment schedule that you are comfortable with.
If you were payed say £8 a week to much why pay it back at a greater rate.

Re: Advice needed
I am sure that there is a procedure for recovering overpayment set out..................I'm afraid I'm not well versed enough to know what it is but fishtank or brothermagrew can probably help you out.

..... and whatever the amount was that should have been weekly deducted, would be the same rate as i would be paying it back.
Lino's fault, not your's

Re: Advice needed
Firstly, what did your union rep say about this?
Guys, just to be clear, the purchase of annual leave is NOT indicated each month on your payslip as such. Rather, your "pay rate" (in the box in the top-right corner) is reduced. The pay rate is simply your annual salary divided by 12 (months) (or 52 (weeks) if you are paid weekly).
So, say the postie's wage is £12,000, and it costs 5% (so £11,400) to buy a week's extra holiday (keeping the figures simple for this illustration)...
Someone paid monthly not buying leave would see "Pay rate: 1000"
Someone paid monthly buying leave would see "Pay rate" 950
(give or take one of two pounds).
---
So, OP, what does your "pay rate" say. and how does this compare against your salary (remember to multiply it, either by 12 or by 52).
If it's less then they ARE deducting the leave purchase amount unless of course you believe you're on a different salary to what you're actually on!
The best bet is to ring HR Sheffield (0845 60 60 60 3) and speak with them.
If it is an overpayment, tell them you'll pay them back a tenner a week, explaining the hardship your family would face if they were to deduct anymore than that.
If they say you can't have any holidays this year, remind them of your contracted annual leave entitlement, and point out that this isn't an average of X years, it is PER YEAR.
If this is indeed an error, and your DOM has any common sense, he'd treat it as an overpayment rather than forcing you to not have any leave. If he does the latter, you'll have to consider what effect this has on your mood, it may well mean a few weeks off with stress and/or depression ;-)

Re: Advice needed
Shocking........and they owe 2 of my colleagues and myself 30 hours of basic pay that they short timed us over 6 weeks and after another 6 weeks of chasing it up have been told that we might not get the money
If I weren't on was of those sh*tty temp contracts I would put my foot down and make demands or fin at my finish time every day until payment made, but unfortunately us guys do not have a toe 2 stand on, never mind a leg
OP, as the other guys have said, do not worry.....ur lino sounds like a proper d*ck. Speak to someone higher or from my experience, someone in HR might be slightly better educated

Re: Advice needed
Call up HR ( their number is on your payslip ), explain what you've been told, and how fearful you are, and you just want to check if what you have been told about the leave deficit, and methods of repayment are correct ( of course not, but then you will have the correct RM proceedure from the horse's mouth ) then after that, next time you see your boss, ask him to tell you again ( conveniently in front of a mate of yours / unit rep ) or ask him to put it into writing, as you will need to work out the change to your income...
...assuming he's not stupid enough to do so, then say I do not believe you, and though willing to repay this debt, I will not repay it according to your terms, because it was an honest mistake, and one I was unaware of, and why was it not brought to light sooner?
...assuming he is stupid enough, get to your rep & get a grievence in against him, scum like him have no place in management, affecting people's lives with ill-thought out whims
