Our office implements this on the 14th FEB

Im pretty sure Royal mail no longer take on people without a driving licence.

Loads of non drivers in our office,I can only see trouble looming,Sick,Holidays etc,I really dont think they have thought it through in detail.

I myself dont drive,Too lazy i suppose,For the last few years i have thought of it but always seem to knackered to be bothered starting lessons.

I know Royal mail used to pay for employees to be put through lessons and their test years ago,The same year i started this practice stopped :d'oh!

Why dont Royal Mail pay for employees once more to be put through their test,A 1 week crash course but charge the employee?

Take pay out of wages over 52 weeks for the extra weeks holiday and the cost of getting ur licence.

Solve loads of problems and gives me the kick up my arse to get my licence :Very Happy

That's the problem... Charge the employee. Do you force people to pay out of their own pocket? Do these people want to drive,and then what happens if they still aren't good enough after a week. Another week out of their pocket? .... Hang on! What a good way of getting rid of people. Fail once or twice bye bye. I can see where you are coming from but I don't think you're idea would work. Then again what does work on rm.

I would probably pay to take lessons so long as it was subisidised.

Employees would only have to pay out of their own pocket if they took lessons externally so if both myself and the business benefits then they can giove me a week off for free and I can pay for 50% of the fees for lessons and tests taken out of my wages over 2-3 years.

The trouble being stored up for the future is at what point in time is RM going to turn round to currently employed people who do not drive and tell them bye bye as they are no longer capable of doing the job or have safe guards been put in place to prevent this happening?

If Royal mail wants you to drive then they should pay for it. If Royal mail wanted a manager to do a computer course they would pay end of.

How can they let you pay for it over two years? They will have been privatised by then and you might not have a job. I spose they could take anything o/s out of your miserly redundancy money

Some offices have delays,not the whole of us though.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I said 52 weeks,That's 1 year not 2.

Anyway,Managers and union etc had meeting this week and decided to delay until April,Haha,What a farce.

Ours is "supposed" to be coming in on the 14th Feb as well but this is the eighth date we have been given. June 2010, Sept 2010, Oct 2010, 5th Nov 2010, 19th Nov 2010, :nervous 2nd Dec 2010 :nervous , 5th Jan 2011 and now the 14th Feb 2011. We are an office that is split in two halves but under the same postcode. They want to have half the office working on the new way (Park and loop + HCT) then after 6-8 weeks the other half joins them! We are to loose 7 walks and people cant complete now, 80% of the office books extended delivery EVERY day!! :crazy:

Thats the problem with 99 % of what Royal Mail do,virually nothing is thought through. I think the Union must be right when they call it panic management.
