Can this be right
In my office we see new starters on 22.5/25.00hr contracts EG.9.30 start coming in at 7.30 from the start to be able to complete there job, but when it comes to holiday pay/ d2d etc its based on the contracted hours . Surely if the job described does not exist and is not possible it should not exist in this way ? Would someone out there explain if im missing something

IS IT WHAT IS SAID ON THE PACKET
In our offfice we see new starters on 25hr contracts starting 2hrs earlier than there contracted hrs to complete there job EG 7.30 instead of 9.30, this happens from day one, but when it comes to holiday pay,d2d,etc.. they get paid pro rata . Surely if the job described doesnt exist it should not be advertised ,maybe the the powers to be are taking advantage of the current climate or maybe im wrong, could someone explain. I wonder how long a PT new recruit would last if they didnt do the required OT to finish there job on a daily basis.

Re: IS IT WHAT IS SAID ON THE PACKET
I would like to know what casual 3 month contract people should get paid for the day.Should they get the same amount of hours as me ,whatever my shift is that day or should they only claim the hours they actually worked that day.
For example if I finish an hour early I still get paid for the hours of the shift but one of these casuals would claim for an hour less. They also are on a lower rate p/h.I would be grateful for anyone who knows the official line on this.

The job does exist on paper.westham67 wrote: Surely if the job described does not exist and is not possible it should not exist in this way ? Would someone out there explain if im missing something
On paper your duty will be fully prepped, your D2D's and redirections done and a nice cup of tea waiting for you when you arrive at 0930.
So if you ever take Royal Mail to an ET they will pull out this magic piece of paper to show that all of that overtime was voluntary and not really necessary to perform your duty.
...back in real world of cuts and f**k ups that piece of paper...isn't worth the paper it's written on.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Surely you mean that the PT'ers are being paid docket to come in early? Of course RM are cheating.bringon4dayweeks wrote:mugswestham67 wrote:In our offfice we see new starters on 25hr contracts starting 2hrs earlier than there contracted hrs to complete there job EG 7.30 instead of 9.30, this happens from day one, but when it comes to holiday pay,d2d,etc.. they get paid pro rata . Think you're being a bit Harsh Bringon, These 12 week rolling contracts are CRAP! We know that but let's not judge these guys too harshly. At least they're willing to work for some money, could just be sitting at home watching daytime TV sponsored by our Taxes!
I think most FTers are under the same impression as Mr Blonde. Pters do not get any docket/Over-time UNTILthey've done 40hrs!
If they did it wouldn't be worth RM employing them on these contracts would it!
They're meant do be used (and abused) as a stop gap measure to help offices through their Revisions. We know they'll probably still be soldiering on years later on the same TEMPORARY Crap contract years later.
I for one feel a lot of sympathy for them.

Re: IS IT WHAT IS SAID ON THE PACKET
i think someof the respondents are mixing up PT contracts with 'casuals'.
Casuals are paid only for the hours worked unlike a contractual staff that gets paid the day's wage regardless of how much work is there.
However, the OP was talking about people employed under a 22 or 25 hour contract but effectively work something like a 30 hour contract from day 1 or on a regular basis.
All the 24 hours folks in my office are now effectively working 30hours. Most (if not all) are happy, of course but they lose out on the pro-rate stuff (not at lot) and possibly on holiday entitlements... Which is not fair on one hand but then they are getting more hours which is what must people want in these tough economic times.
RM is being crafty and flexible: they are of course still under the impression that mail volumes are down; and that when we get more automated, they can simply reduce their hours back to the contract of 22 or 25 hours.
People are not mugs! If you are on 3 months rolling contract or short term contract and refuse to be flexible then when your contract is up for renewal you find it not renewed...
