Forced to do different duty

Can i be made to do a different duty from the one i have signed for? In June last year i was made supervisor and signed for the new duty. But since then a lot of people have had various injuries and have had to be assigned light duties and have been put in the office, so i was asked if temporarily i could do driving. I agreed, to help them out but this has been going on for a few months now, and last week i was told i was going to have to cover the late shift and had to change my hours. Currently they are 6.30 till 2.30 but they have forced me to work 11am till 7pm, can they do this and do i stand a chance of get my job as supervisor back?

Anyway they can change your hours but they have to advise you - I think - 28 days before they do. You can refuse those hours and they have to look at it again but they can change your contract. However, if they do so you can register a greviance and ultimately once you have exhausted all internal avenues (again not sure) you can take them to an ET for "Constructive Dismissal"

Howver, from your post you have already started these hours so not sure how that would effect an ET, but it would be difficult to change now I think.

Edit: Sorry forgot - yes after 2007 and the flexibility fiasco they can "force" you to change your duty even if you have signed for it, as long as you have the correct skills or have received training for it.

Quality union eh? Agreeing to the flexibility fiasco. I wonder if Ward and Hayes got told tomorrow that they were going to an office to do a delivery, how keen they'd be?

Not sure - but if its temporary then they should have asked you. They may be playing the we promoted them they'll do anything we say card.

My advice would be at some point to say "No, sorry cant do that because........(have a good honest reason ready though)" and then they will realise that they have to treat you with respect and can't expect you to drop all your commitments just to help them.

get used to it if you want to carry on as a supervisor.it will happen on a regular basis.

they can take you of anyduty to make you do another duty it happens all the time in our office

One of our acting managers refused to show his license when required to do so to satisfy royal mail rules (six monthly?) and hasn`t been asked to cover a driving duty since.
