Anyone know what the training time is for the cage or RLE? Also how tolerant of 'mistakes' i.e. missing a 9am etc are RM in general or is it down to the individual manager?

Anyone here in the RLE? do you enjoy it?

the cage is the cage no more....in our office opg's just come and go as they please!!!!!!
anyway....i worked in the cage for a few years....not a bad duty but you can be under pressure!!!....especially as in our office you have to do the callers office and when you are trying to confirm specials you do get stressed!!!!!
But not the same as it used to be......

Cushiest job in the office. Don't believe any of those 'stressful' stories. When others are out slogging round in the pissing rain, the cage boys are drinking coffee, feet up chatting with managers.

The two in our cage are lazy bleeders it could be 40c in the cage and they won't break out in a sweat. Only good for eating pies all day and letting customers queue out in the cold..Tell ya what yeah! they won't help anyone only run to mangers telling tales about Joe and Mick ain't put the time on the cards today boss. The one RLE person I do know has said that 99.9% of OPG's reckon that people in the RLE have the easiest life going with nothing to do etc etc yet he said when it comes for signing nobody wants to do it! There IS pressure and any mistake you make will be found out as its on the 'gun'/computer everyone wants their Reg yesterday etc etc there are benefits to the RLE but there are also downsides which OPG's like to gloss over.

i work in rle and it is not easy as you say i have to gun in the specials and track items while answering the door and when the drivers want there specials.plus i have to do surcharges and business replysplus i have to kill off out of date packets specials recordeds .also sometimes i have to throw off walks or tie walks up and they still expect me to do all my work.another thing when the walking people finish there round they can go home and sometimes that can be an hour early early while i have to work to my time .also if i cant find a packet which is usually because the postman has left it in his bag im the one who has to take the abuse of the customer.those who think it is easy should try it for a week then they can comment try working on your own in there on a saturday when everyone comes in for there packets etc

I've said for years that everyone in the office should do a week in there every year so they can see how their mistakes make the job harder indoors,btw I don't work in there any more only on the odd occasion.

If you mean locker work, avoid its sh1t, really really sh1t and I don't mean maybe, I had to do customers in the callers office, sign in packets, parcels, log them in, stack them, find them, give out, do specials, do kill offs then send them to RLB etc, dispatching specials, collect specials off drivers, bag up, send off, make sure your count is spot on, count up all the specials at end of shift and check specials on take over, different shifts have different set of responsibility, the last shift is the worst, any mistakes you really get it without vaseline, oh and there is no extra money for doing it

The Cage is a piece of cake in our place now that P&L is in. Start time is 6:30, registers all ready to go by 8 which is when the Caller's Office opens and then the posties seem to come for their stuff in dribs and drabs now. Used to be they'd be queued up outside the window beforet he Specials were ready...
