rules on coming in early

most of the partimers in my office come in at least 1 hour before they even start getting paid!!! ! is this even legal??? i heard they can only come in 30 minuits before? is this right? the only reasom they do it is cz they have not got the time to do their duties in the time paid but they are to scared to book overtime or leave it as i do!

i am on a 25 hour contract and used to start early to prep my own duty but ALWAYS booked any exra time worked.

due to mail volumes falling i was told to start on time, i just work my hours now.

All idiots for doing it! Makes the rounds look easy, and makes the full timers look lazy. Get a proper rep to have a word with em. It's your jobs they're ruining.

The trouble is, that too many people don't give a damn about anyone else. So long as they're ok, that's all they're interested in.

A 'proper rep' doesn't make a difference to the folk who come in early.

That's exactly the problem. It doesn't matter how many times the Rep asks people not to come in early (or cut any other corners, for that matter). The fools don't pay any attention. It's sad, but true. They just won't see sense!

I've seen more that one or two of these people in my office doing as they like, dispite advice from the rest of us

However, their turned to when they slipped up.

Lets just say the reps didn't go beyond the call of duty to defend this type of employee

i never start early 6am start.some of the floaters come in 20 mins early to do my walk.i tell them there idiots,many in our office come in early to pop some door 2 doors in,i tell them this is included in your work time,brain dead some of them.where all just a no at the end of the day ?

I must admit, I'm concerned about the Reps not fighting hard for these people. I know they're causing emense problems for the rest of us, but they're still people. And as such, they should get all the help that we'd expect.

I'd like to think that if they ended up on a disciplinary, because of their selfish, short sighted attitudes. It'd bring home the dangers of what they've done. But they can't learn, if they end up on the Dole.

We have people going in 1 Hour Early and even four 3 HOURS EARLY the managers love it as they get them to throw up walks when people are off sick or on holiday
On my duty i prep another walk for 1hr 40mins before i move onto my own duty thats if i am not called back to do ips with all this loose mail coming in (Sorting machines to put mail in order ) anyway the guy who was on the walk who should have came in at 0945pm was throwing up the walk at 0550am
And to top it all he was doing overtime which should have started at 0945am and he managed to deliver 2 walks within his 1 delivery walk time and got paid 2 hours overtime

I've had this very same argument in our office for years.
I have told them till I'm blue in the face. . . STOP COMING IN EARLY AND STARTING BEFORE YOUR DUTY TIME.
But they don't listen and slowly but surely there rounds are getting bigger and bigger and so they come in even earlier and slowly but surely there round gets even bigger.

Not only do I have NO sympathy, I also tell them they should be ashamed of there selves, because they are and have taken away someone elses job !!!!

My new argument now is, I have told them just for a few days, start at there duty start time, then see if they can complete there round within the duty time.

Besides, I thought you was not allowed to start early because of health and safety reasons, if you start before your time, you are not covered by any insurance ??

Apparently if there is a signing on sheet available it's ok. H&S ADR told me this.
