working annual leave

Post by halfull »

their are several posties in my office who work all of their annual leave and get paid for it like they are working their week off! so each day of the week when they work annual leave they book 8 hours overtime. is this even legal to work annual leave and get paid for it? i thought you had to take annual leave off! :hmmmm

It is not allowed.
It is specifically mentioned in the Way Forward (I would provide the link but I see Fishtank is online - he'll do it :Very Happy )
The rep needs to flag this up. Bye bye DOM :wave

I'm not working my annual leave, I want to have a life outside of RM, whoever does that is mad and depriving jobs.

'Way Forward' agreement under the section 'Taking Leave' it says -

"Employees may not attend the office whilst on annual or other leave. This means that employees may not attend the office to work overtime or Scheduled Attendance"

Make sure you've got your facts correct. Did they work their annual leave on o/t or have they swapped their weeks?
Contact your Area Rep. He should tell you what needs to be done.
If he isn't interested contact your manager's manager.

its not swapped weeks its when they have booked time off (annual) and they arrange with the line manager to work it cz they are work/money mad and they come in and get paid for being on annual leave AND get paid for working the week! (8hours per day overtime!)

As I have said in another thread today, its perfectly legal, not right and against the wayfoward agreement, but perfectly legal for someone to work their annual leave voluntarily

you are totally wrong! just been reading the way forward 2000 agreement and here is what i found: In no circumstances may leave from the standard national entitlements be reduced, neither may un-taken leave or other time off in lieu be “sold” or converted into pay. Employees may not attend the office whilst on annual or other leave. This means that employees may not attend the office to work overtime or Scheduled Attendance. so there yoy have it! it should not be done!

That's what he said.
The way forward is a collective agreement but has no power outside Royal Mail and certainly not in law.
Working annual leave voluntarily should not happen as we have an agreement with our employer not to do so but it is not unlawful and certainly not illegal.

It's a sorry state of affairs but one reason this happens is due to the increase in Part-Time contracts!
When you're working you get the extra money, when you're on leave you're on flat rate loosing up to £150 a week! :mad

At this time of the year it'll happen more as the DIMs trying to get all the leave sorted before the end of the leave year.
Great isn't it? Can't take leave during the Christmas period can't get leave during the Summer (when everyone wants it) but have as much as you like when there's shitty weather and nothing to do. :d'oh!

So when someone is allowed to work there annual leave, that is money that could have been put forward towards office savings and a future bonus ??

Another for me to look into.
