I don't know about 5Live but there was a piece on Granada Reports about delays in mail and one case in particular a bloke due chemotherapy when the letter was posted on 14th/12 and delivered 23rd/12 but he'd missed his appointment. Closer to home a chap in a town not far from me had a similar experience.
Royal Mail spokesman blamed the weather in both instances. I can't say about the Granada case but the local one was from a DO who had just had a revision.

There was a feature yesterday on You and Yours (Radio 4) on "Are you still getting Christmas Mail" - Plenty of people rang in complaining. reckoned biggest response they have ever had to an item - played a recorded reply from an RM spokesperson in one area in the North West with usual pre-scripted bollocks about abnormal weather etc but did actually admit that a change in operational workings had played a small part in delays, but that now all backlog had been cleared. Presenter finished up by saying "Well, we have been contacted by a number of postmen and women disputing that" and said they would be returning to the subject in the future. The word is starting to get out to the national media now

i was still delivering xmas cards yesterday somthing need tRo be done so it dosn't happen next year!!! Keep the sorting LOCAL!!! you cannot buy local Knowlage!!Royal Mail doing xmas on the cheap and running down the service!!!!!

It's great that RM managers are getting it in the neck from the public. But can't help feeling that the public have no concept
of what's in store for the service after privatisation. As i tell my customers, if you think it's bad now,God knows what you will make
of what's coming.

That's the latest one Eric, but there have been others across the nation plus the local rags with two or three articles and the radio.
