Are postmen allowed to docket parcels in flats without ringi

Post by Johnny_Rad »

Hi
I have recently moved into flat where the delivery points are are downstairs by the front door. If my postman has a parcel for me he dockets it without ringing the bell!!

I called customer services who said this is procedure as I live in a flat.

Is this correct??? As a postman of ten years I have never heared of this rule..

If so what is the point of the postie even taking the parcels for flats out on delivery??

One of my rounds is all flats with delivery poins on the ground floor. It has 786 calls and I usually average between 40 and 60 parcels a day.

If this rule is correct then should I not be allowed to write all the dockets out in the office and make no attempt to deliver any of them???? (Which I would never dream of doing) then take them all back to the office as docket left..

I think it depends on if the driver can get access to the building, I've always delivered to the individual address if it doesn't go into the ground floor AP but I know others in my office don't.

He should ring the bell and if you/someone is in they should go down and get it.
All walks have to be risk assessed and if the delivery point is downstairs - that is where the risk assessment will have been carried out.
If the postie injures him/herself wandering around buildings, it will be regarded as their own fault.

Hi
Yes! my issue is that he doesn't even ring the bell!! He walkes straight past the bell (intercom) which is on the outside of the building, enters the lobby and puts a docket in the box..

I have even seen him do it!!!

Have you tried talking to him?
I can't believe he would bring the packet out and not attempt to get rid of it. Are you sure your bell works?
If talking to him doesn't help, you could always ask his manager to explain his behaviour.

There is a lift but I don't expect him to knock my door!!!

All I expect him to do is ring my bell which is on the ground floor, and I will go down to get the parcel..

I am disgusted that there is no attempt to deliver the parcel!!!

YES the bell works!!!

I have talked to RM customer services who say this is procedure!!!!

I am waiting for a manager to phone me back which will probably never happen.

RM customer service is manned by chickens - cluck cluck all day; they have not got a clue as to the job we do. The number of options there for you to get to what you want is ridiculous and there is a lot of waiting because they are busy...

Anyway, some postmen do as they please and give the rest of us a bad name. He should ring your bell and wait just like any other property. Some postmen just leave the packets in the lobby or on the ledge - I think this is also unacceptable.

The only things I will say about people that docket flats without ringing is that a lot of the times the people are not in - it is not an excuse... I deliver to some tenanted flats full of youngish/professional people - they are the Ebay/Amazon/Online shopping generation and loads of packets but they are at work most of the time (85%) of the time.

I still take the packets because it might be that one day that they are in and really waiting for their mail/packet that I chhose to docket. It is not worth the risk. But judging by the way RM deals with complaints , some postmen (esp the old guard) will not be too bothered.

It is hard to talk to your postie (as I have found out) because you are most likely going to be at work when he/she comes around. Even when I was home, I have missed the postman because I was busy and not looking out of the window every 3 minutes.

They must ring the buzzer and attempt delivery. If you answer and say "bring it up" he has the right to ask you to come down for it as the boxes are downstairs and its your delivery point.
I had a polish bird once who answered the buzzer and she said “Bring zee parcel up please” I refused and said “this is your delivery point love” she then said “in zat case I will block the box in future” I turned around and said “in zat case I will bring your mail back as no access in future” that shut her up.
she has moved since…

I have the odd block with the boxes in the lobby as such but their actual doors are up stairs.
I always buzz them, sometimes they come down some times i go up.
