profitability or the lack of

Post by DP3 »

Is it me or what
the crozier tells us we were losing a million a day and that he changed it to making a million a day profit
should have been christened jesus the miracle worker of his generation. lies damn lies and statistics
now we have a new leader who tells us that not only are we losing money on downstream access 2p or more per item
we are also losing money on stamped mail 6p an item, and now anounces even though we handled record figures of packets
this year we are now losing money on these as well.
but not to worry as they have a plan, sounds just like BALDRIC to me.
we have seen that many changes recently that we are now going back to what we used to do
except there is no leadership. It appears that if they think it will get them a bonus to pay for a new car or holiday then that's what we go with.
a group of blind people would show more vision than this load of idiots.
6 lots d2d week after christmas mail over the top of the office doorway parcel shed up to the roof with undelivered presents
and what are we told if you cannot deliver the d2d's in the short week back leave them for another week and if you still cannot do them
the solution is SEND them BACK
they should change the name of this business to something more appropriate
any suggestions?

I was thinking exactly along these lines...

I very much doubt Royal Mail is making any profit on MailSorts. There are so many of the damn things, from silly little flyers to jumbo sized catalogues. The amount of processing that goes into these items is beyond what should be a straight forward pieces of mail. A lot of them cannot go through the machines (some shrink-wrap, misshaped, coloured, addressing issues, oversized and so on); and even the clean mails are having to be sorted again in the Mail Centre.

Sorting them again in the MC sometimes means they are taken out of the bundles and they are all over the place instead of being more or less sorted(?) and straight to delivery points.

Add the others pileof cack from the other carriers, we are going through a phase of unprecedented 'cheap as chips' mail. In fact, the mail volume is definitely not dropping and the workload has increased even without the consideration of more packets and recorded/special delivery. Also D2Ds.

Royal Mail is making a lot of revenue but not enough profit because in order to compete they are operating some of their services at a loss (loss leaders so to speak). In additon, we have the Regulators and piss-poor management at most levels especially at the Top - no clue bosses!

And why are they not making more effort to collect their money? Freepost & BRs appears to completely free to a lot of companies because folks cannot be bothered - and a lot should have been charged higher up the chain so that when they get to the ever so busy DO, the postmen dont feel it is their job to help the 'Revenue Protection' dept.

the losses posted could have something to do with buying tens of thousands of vans (to save money?????)
we were told by a guy that came into our office to look into any planning issues before implementation that RM would go bust in 2012 unless change is made, no doubt it will now be brought forward.
the changes have been implemented on a one size fits all and as the woman (or man) walking the streets knows this is simply not the case.
RIP RM.

Ahhh yes the losses and profit yo yo.
One year we are losing £1M a day,the next year our profits are £1M a day,so in one year if you do your maths or it may go into 2 years we make near on 1Billion profit. Cause we've just sorted the £1M loss into a £1M profit.
You do the maths. :hmmmm

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

This losing money con is the oldest trick in the book. It always leads up to a sell off of a company, and lo and behold the following year after privatisation they declare a profit and trumpet what a success the sell off has been. Don't be fooled by it.

Paving the way for negative value of colleague shares. Still if we hold on to them till 2012, isn,t that going to be a good year?

Point taken Belial. Thought if we hung on to them there might be a very small chance that we might get that massive payrise that we are due in April. :nana :nana

Nothing RM do saves money, all thier schemes are fecked up. They make us do absorbtion that costs more than keeping someone on a round and they give people EVR then replace them with new people costing EVR payments and saving jack sheet in wages? As mentioned above, buying thousands of vans that cost a bloody fortune and will go on costing a fortune to maintain and keep on the roads.

I think the only reason they come up with these schemes is to try and justify the extortionate wages/bonuses that managers/executives suck from the company. After all, if they just let it run efficiently without interference they would find it hard to justify themselves being employed by RM. They save thier jobs at the cost of the service and our health! :arrrghhh
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Quite right moyas slave. Some dreamer has come up with a cunning plan involving vans, LCTs and HCTs and sold it to the powers that be. On paper at least it is a good idea and was put to the union as weight off the shoulder and a H&S innovation.

Implemented correctly and in the areas that would most benefit it is still a good idea BUT as you say it has been implemented as a one size fits all solution and that it is not. The planning should have been carried out prior to ordering masses of equipment and trialled on an individual basis, it would most certainly have taken longer but the savings would have come from NOT having 10,000 vans in a field.
