You have to laugh at page 4 and 5 in this months courier regarding how we coped with the snow. Plenty of pictures of posties outside without a hi - viz jacket. It evens says that safety was the no. 1 priority for russell the local cwu rep, but he is delivering a tracked item without a hi - viz on.....LOFL.

We got or spikeys on christmas eve they came special delivery after two weeks of slipping and sliding and have not needed them since

Because if and when you have an Accident/Incident Royal Mail will want to know why you weren't wearing one!! If they say It's not a required part of uniform you can bet your life in a court of law It will be.

Does that include being issued the wrong size spikeys?

It's up to you. If safety equipment is not provided or is the wrong size make sure you get it in writing from your DOM that you are performing your duty without said equipment! It's his responsibility to provide you with the correct equipment for the job!

Fair enough, it's not his fault though, it's what he was given. I still have the spikeys in the original packaging anyway, i suppose i would be accused of swapping them in an attempt to make a claim

Bottom line... If you're told you've got to wear PPE i.e Hi-Vis vests, Cycle Helmets or RM issued footwear, THEN WEAR IT! If you can't be arsed to wear it, fair enough! But don't come moaning (and expecting compensation) if you get knocked over in bad light and get your head caved in!! If I was a DIM, and I'm not, my argument would be, "I told everyone they should.........and they ignored me!" Why make life easy for them? Use all the kit they issue you with, so what if you look a twat! How many Dickheads have you nearly run over on your way to work because they're walking down the middle of the road in a black hoody?
The way I look at it is, It's my responsibility to come home to my Family in one piece, F..k RM!
