whats the offical/unoffical guidelines on
1) Holding a metting in works time in there building
2)giving out leaflets/letters to members in works time in the works building.

What if you some of the guys get together and you tell them to start doing things properly etc

I think you have to ask permission for 1 as you would be taking people away from their tasks - unless you get them to go unofficial which always scares RM.

On 2 I suppose it depends on what your passing out. Our old rep used to put stuff on peoples frames and the old DOM used to get in a state about it but it still did not stop the rep.

Ultimately I suppose the Manager could suspend you for instigating unofficial industrial action so unless relations are at breaking point it might be better to just "run it up the flagpole " and see if it floats

So if you go unoffical and have a meeting on the gate but agree what to do when you are on the gate and go straight back in then what will happen, will thy accept to take the time as part of your break?

am sure you have to ask to hold a meeting in there time but you could have one outside before you start work

If you go unofficial they could suspend the "ringleaders" and ultimately sack you (although if your the rep its unlikely they will sack you).

They may accept it as a break if you asked before but its highly unlikely they would after the fact.

If you are on the edge of taking any unofficial action first try and get a general picture of the views of the office and then contact the ADR (or higher) just to give them a heads up and get advice especially if you are a new rep or this is a new experience for you. Not for any other reason than if you do take any unofficial action you don't want to be the only one, you'll be exposed and vulnerable then.

With regards to a meeting at the gate,do it early before your shift starts and there's nothing they can do about it.

Or at the end of the shift, in case anyone's running late setting off for work. Less chance of missing anyone.

If your meeting is that important hold it outside of R/M 15 mins before your duty starts as Postman has suggested.

This is the route my office went down and the DIMS faces were a treat to see as they were driving through the gate wondering what we were all doing in the adjacent car park .

Give enough notice to the lads in your office when/were the meeting is you can then hand out your leaflets and say what's needed to the chaps you represent. These leaflets are not home made ballot papers by any chance if they are this will cause you more heartache in the long run,and if they are make sure you get them back off everyone and burn them afterwards as for this you should be going through your branch.

Be warned my friend if your leaflets are in anyway inciting Un-offical I/A you will be suspended within 24 hours of holding your meeting . On your return to work the area and divisonal rep will be present for your interview as R/M have to give 24 hours notice to suspend a rep,so the two official's can accompany you to your interview.

Your DIMS will get to see the leaflet as someone all ways keep hold of one then leaves it lying around the office.

Have you asked your DIM if you can have time with the lads obviously when you ask your DIM this he will S*IT his pance.

Whats your gripe about anyway buddy your very vague a bit more info would help on your situ.

Just be careful as it seems your going down the incitement route hear but don't give up fighting plan your next move very carefully.

Another option is the lads just walk off the shop floor into the canteen then you get to say your piece but will they do that and what would there reasons be for downing tools ? then no one is held to blame for what ever is going down in your D/O.
