... you work some more, only to find that the hourly rate has gone DOWN by about 12%!

When did this scam come into play? I was told that there was a time when after the 1st 10 hours anything after that you were payed double time. How can it be that the hourly rate you're payed falls off like that?!

When did this come in?

Who's to blame for this scandal?

Anyone know?...

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

That way you aren't tempted to do too much docket and jobs are created. I like it.

I think it came in a few years ago. After the first 10 hours your hourly pay is LESS than your basic hourly pay. Another great deal negotiated for us by top brass in the union.

Hi,

I've worked for RM for 4 years now, and discoverered this bizzare situation shortly after I began working for them. Having come from a workplace that paid time & 1/2 overtime and double time on bank holidays, it struck me as pi$$ poor. I'm on 25 hrs, so do as little ovetime as poss (due to other commitments & not wanting to be 'used' ) and certainly never do more than 50 hrs now !I should point out that I did 53 hrs ONE WEEK, covering the callers office (Room of Doom, I like that, lol) but never again ! :evil/mad

Not sure what the difference is between standard time & what we get between 40-50hrs, but it's a pittance :sad: and I never get near it now anyways....

I don't think it does.
It encourages Royal Mail to put too much work on docket.
If it cost them more they would be more inclined to put the hours into offices...just an opinion. :nervous

I rem when it 1st came in and that directive on how many hrs we could do malarkey.

Loads of bods at our place were pulled up from doing docket as they were having too much.
Didn't take long for it to go out of the window.

It came in with the Way Forward Agreement 2000, before that we used to get time and a quarter for first six hours,
time and a half for the next six hours, and double time after 12 hours.

If people weren't so greedy, RM would have to put hours back into offices. We all know the hours we take on in our contracts. I would personally like to see more numbers in paid work than employees working themselves to death for extra cash. If you do ot, expect to get shafted.

Yep I get it as well. Shite OT rate less folks do it /protect jobs.
Trouble is ,far too many numpties out there plus those stuck in the poverty trap who will work all day for half a dozen beans just to survive.
So disregarding the conspiracy theories you have to chalk it up to a leadership miscalculation/blunder.
Would have been more effective securing double time
