Is it worth a claim.

Post by streetstomper »

Hi all, just a little advice if you can help, at the moment I am on light duties due to a condition called PLANTAR FASCIITIS, put simply a severe inflammation of the instep tendons on my left foot. I have put up with it for a couple of months but finally went to see the doc and he gave me a strong anti inflammitary tablet and told me not to stress it too much for a month then go back to see him. I was just wandering if it was worth a claim against the company due to pain and discomfort. I have been a postman on walking delivery for 11 years and can only put it down to wear and tear from the job. Hope you can give my any help or advice many thanks for reading.
ps Am dreading park and loop and another 1.5 hours more on delivery coming in.

I think you would have a hard job proving RM was liable for your injury ( this goes for all the bad backs , hips and knees posties suffer ) and therefore a claim for compensation would be difficult but your condition can be covered under the DDA

Being off you feet for a few weeks won't help, you either need to does up on painkillers and get on with it or find another job  , I use the painkillers route :Very Happy kapake and votarol 75s :nana :nana

Plus I find it worse in the mornings when I get up and when I stop to have my break, really intense pain for the first few steps until the foot stretches out again :nana :nana :nana :nana

You have my sympathies Street I suffer from it myself and it can be bloody painfull!
Have you tried an arch support insole? A sports one is best, available at Boots ( ) or online. They will feel a bit strange for a while but made all the difference to me, I was back dancing in no time! :nana :nana :nana
Has your Doc shown you any exercises? I found standing with my heel hanging over the nearest kerb helped stretch the tendon and achilles...got some strange looks mind! :left:
All the best

Have had this for nearly six years!I wear insoles which does help a bit as well as doing the exercises. This condition can also lead to other problems because of the wrong positioning of the foot when it strikes the ground. Misalignment of the knee, hip and back are most common, so dont expect miracles. I agree, maybe its time everyone did get together and start claiming compensation for these ongoing injuries. Even my doctor has admitted that all these joint/muscle problems are more than likely brought on by the job but would not be prepared to stand up and say so. !!Its strange that people of my own age group who do "normal" jobs dont seem to have these problems, so what does that tell us?
