How do you join the union??

May sound stupid but im a recent pre-Christmas starter, on a 3 month contract but have been told it with the intention to go full time eventually (whether this is true or not im not sure)... My question is how do I join the union?? When chatting with other posties iv they've said somebody should approach me? but I haven't heard anything yet?

go on the union web site and follow the links or ask your rep for a form ,if you have a rep that is . cwu.org

CWU mate just give them a ring and its sorted in a couple of mins.

i know people slag them off but it my belief that your better in than out.

I used to say better in the union than out tooo..... been out a few months now. Only difference I have noticed is an extra £3 in my wages each week and the only loss, no diary at xmas! Needless to say I'm happy with my decision!!!

untill you need them!

what do people think will happen by leaving the CWU, if the union were not there things would be a whole lot worse, all you do is weaken the fight!!

all for £3. Join the CWU and become active if your not happy.

There is no point in preaching to members who have left with these

All that does is drive them further away.
Step back and think....why do they feel that way?...what are we doing wrong?
Then you might have a chance to re-engage and re-unite.

Any semi-literate can see through the "become active" line i'm afraid.

Heres what our Union Rep does for us:

Manipulates duties to ensure he has the easiest job.

Takes Union Leave every other week and leaves us to pick up the pieces.

Talks to us on an individual basis 'cause he knows that having a full meeting would result in him not getting what he wants.

Lies about the backing he gets from us (NIL 'cause we all hate him).

Ignores our complaints if he doesn't like what we are saying or if they affect him.

Ignores bad practices by managers because it benefits him.

Preaches "Union Ethos" but in practice is totally out forthe benefit of himself.

Is looking to get a full-time reps job 'cause he thinks he's good (he'll probably get it as they are all "good old boys" together and look after their own!).

He got voted out once and pretended to Union HQ that he had resigned due to too much union work. Subsequently spineless gits allowed him back in as Rep and now he's ruling the roost back to his old tricks!

The man is a f***ing prick! No wonder people don't join the union with idiots like hime, thank f**k I'm out of it as well.

While it's easier for me to say it than you doing it as working with him afterwards could be awkward why don't one of your guys stand against him if he's that bad?

Nobody wants to take on the job, simple as that. We've tried asking around but they are happy to complain about him, less happy to take action - saps. Two of us were prepared to do something about it permanently, nobody else would back us. Easy to do nothing and complain than do something and fight. I complained about him in writing to CWU HQ at one point, it was buried by them .......! As far as I'm concerned the Union Reps/HQ are all in each others pockets.
