atos, area manager and IHR

ive basicly been off sick for 3 months, ive had one "see how you are doing " interview with my own manager, and one telephone interview with atos in which the interviewer stated that my condition (psoriatic arthritis) was chronic, not yet controlled and that she couldn't say when it would be controlled , today i got a registered from my area manager requesting me to attend an interview with him on friday of this week, i wont hide the fact that i would like to be offered IHR as i cant see my condition getting better and there is no way i can carry out any postal duties , can any union rep enlighten me as to whether there is a chance of me being offered this on friday or is it too soon, i know my partner had to go through three telephone interviews with atos plus a face to face before being offered ihr, or do you think its more to pressure me into returning to work

i would think that you are in with a good chance but do you really want it would you not be better off trying to get your self coverd under the dda act

Hunny, you have my sympathy. I have a family member with psoriatic arthritis and I know how debiliating it is. If you haven't already, try asking your GP about methotrexate. It's the only thing that's done any good for the person I know.

many thanks for your replies, have been on methotrexate for a few months now but so far no joy, have had some complications with it as well, my specialist wants me to be on morphine but my own g.p wont give me it as i have children so daily life is a struggle, to be honest if they offer me a pay off im going to take it as i dont want or couldn't cope with even indoor work just now and can't predict when i will see an improvement, will post after my meeting tomorrow......wish me luck

It takes a while for it to build up in your system and have effects. But once it does it does help. Or at least it has for my relative. As with any drug, there are side effects and only you can judge whether they are worth it. I only mentioned it because it has been a boon to my relative.

I'm not a doctor, and I presume, neither is Chucky (or he wouldn't be working for RM). Always be guided by your GP's advice and not some dude off the internet, however well-intentioned he may be.

just out, just to update everyone, area manager said that he is going to contact atos and tell them he wants me ill health retired so hopefully now its just a matter of a couple of weeks and that should be me, the way he was talking i dont even think i need to go for a medical from them, just wait on the offer and thats it, can't say i'll be sorry to go , i'll miss my friends in the p.o but the job now is a bit like myself.....done in

I was ill health retired last November and it took nine months from when I first went sick.
You will have to have a face to face with an Atos doctor and he/she will have to recommend ill health retirement, it is not up to your DOM
Once ill health retirement is offered by the doctor , you will need to have an interview with your manager to agree terms and sign a form.
In my case it took only a week from signing to being paid out ( 34 weeks pay + 12 weeks notice non taxable ) Also you are entitled to your colleague shares which are being revalued at the moment which should be £1000 + ( taxable )
Like you I miss some of my workmates but I am glad to be out of it now. Good luck.

i know thats the usual procedure, but it wasn't my dom who said it, it was my area manager ,due to circumstances he is going to tell atos that he wants me IHR istead of waiting on another doctors report , he says it will take between 1 and two weeks then i will return to sign the forms, atos will basicly do as RM tell them, even if i have to have a medical it will only delay the inevitable
