hi all, please help. i am very interested in becoming a post man but my current job ( which i do not want to give up) means i would be unable to work saturdays. is there anyway i can get round this problem???

Posties work monday - saturday, with a rotating day off,

And, ironically, the best way of becoming a postman can be to apply for one of their Saturday only vacancies, a sort of foot in the door that invariably leads to more hours a week and possibly even eventually full time.

i became a post man 2 years 8 months ago .and it has got worse and worse in the last year and a half .i can tell you any illusions you have ..will be shattered ..soon after you join .. i would say stay in your current job ..i wish i had stayed in my previous one ..stacking veg in a super market ..

Legally - No ---- Saturday is a normal working day for most posties.

But as fishtanks intimates the USO will be under pressure after privatisation so Saturdays may go in a few years.

i concure with the lads i would find employment else where its pretty rubbish at the minute and only seems to be getting worse!

Unless your other job is a sofa tester I very much doubt you would be able to be a postie and hold down another job aswell.

8 so far for me and its still a fixed day off in the middle of the week.
