Moved to another office to deliver

Not been moved to another office to do a delivery for ages . Happened almost weekly when new .

This morning I come into do my rotation / floater duty and was told Me and another guy were being sent half an hour away to do a delivery .

I decided I would pull rank as me and the bloke being sent out were higher than THREE of the others staying in our office .

When I said it the manager told me they were doing overtime and had to stay .... WTF ? ? ?

How do I stand ?? Might be coincidence about me not working past my time anymore .

Didnt mind to be honest as I would only be doing half a duty but its not the point . Im spare again tomorrow despite having a duty .

if you hold a duty who is doing it? if they are spare then they should be sent to the other office i would say to your dom that you are go to put in b@h form see what he says to that

I know they are generally totally useless, but, have you got what's laughingly called a union rep there? Ask him to intervene.

I have my own floating duty and its been like this for almost 2 years and this is the 1st time its happened so wondering why suddenly now ??

Im not a pushover so im not worried about it . Also the rep is a tough guy who takes no sh1t so will have a word if it goes further .

You only move if there is spare capacity in your office,you can't move then it triggers docket.
Now that's how it should work and the rep should be on this like a flash,plus the DOM is cutting his own throat by paying out extra hrs for nothing.

Not at all . Didnt know the full story so didnt want to make a big fuss as I was only gonna be doing half a walk so better for me BUT tomorrow IS a different story .

As for the rep he was out delivering and we were away before he came back . Will see him tomorrow .

Do you mean "rest day cover" or "reserve" ?

So that's a regular duty. Now if your office has 0 reserves ,or if all reserves have been transfered and you are next in line ,then operational needs will come into play.
If this is not the case ,then as a duty holder you have a case for discrimination if the same criteria are not being applied to all duty holders

There are 5 lowest ranked p/t ers . Im top of the 5 and the guy that came with me was 4th so the 3 lowest ranked posties were kept in the office .

So duty holder moved before reserves :shock:Now it wouldn't be hard to find a flaw in that Why weren't other duty holders shifted ? Are you unique ? a special case? What criteria were used, what is the rational ? DISCRIMINATION looms large

This is a tricky situation. Ergo, manager can ask people to do whatever they think is reasonable or in view of operational needs. The idea of having a walk and being unmovable is flawed anyway as it discrimnates against those without walks... But I know Royal Mail does things differently and it works most of the time - even if it is not fair.

Royal Mail has changed and the idea that you work your way up is not compeletly true anymore. Nowadays, it is possible to be a floater/reserve for a very long time, also one can remain a part-timer forever. So seniority needs to end as soon as possible and it will as it gives too much of an unfair advantage in terms of holidays, time taken to do the job as per local knowledge and thoroughly knowing the round/customers, security of knowing what one is doing (and not messed around), easier rounds and tips...

Going forward, Royal Mail will require more and more flexibility, people doing lots of different walks and being deployed to where needed.

Your office shouldn't be using seniority to determine holidays.
That's both company and union policy and has been for a while.

That's "growing a pair" and standing up for yourself.

Yes was phoned up by manager telling me not to bother turning up but just to make my way to another office . Aye right ! !

Went in and asked wtf was going on . Wont bore you with all the details but the manager says its not fair the new starters being asked to go out all the time

EH ? ? SAY AGAIN ? ? ? I done it for about a year and now having to do it again because its unfair on the new starts ? ? ?

Speaking to union guy tomorrow . Told him everyone in office would agree its unfair and he would be the only one saying its not . He said we are all wrong and he is ri ght
