IF YOU HAVE LEFT THE CWU - WHAT WOULD BRING YOU BACK

A few (or a lot) on here have been part of the trickle (or flood) leaving the CWU because of the deal of century (or debacle of the decade), well honestly what would bring you back into the fold. Serious discussion please.

The first thing that the CWU leadership need to do is restore confidence, we've been bashed and battered for the past 5 years, we've had our terms and conditions eroded over the same time period and all with the help of the Billy and Dave. Those of us at the bottom (and not in London) really need to see some leadership, I don't think we can have that with the current leadership and as a first step would be their removal and ensuring that ALL areas are properly looked at.

I haven't left yet. But, and this is only my opinion, the leadership is only concerned with their own survival, not the improvement in our terms and conditions. If they continue to back RM's policy of slash and burn (as I see it), then I will leave.

why do the rest of the country think london gets a good deal from the cwu leadership as you should all know by now
london were out on strike for 24 hours and 48 hours stoppages for a few months before the rest of the country decided
to come on a national 24 hour stoppage.then all of a sudden a vote is put to a national ballot and it is agreed.
yet everyone now says well i didnt vote it in.

london staff knew that once a national ballot was voted we would be sold down the river.
it was the london divisonal reps and local reps who were stiched up by the cwu leadership.

it is time for everyone to be in the union, and united together and that all the members vote
in all ballots and when voting in the cwu leadership.

Get rid of Hayes and Ward for starters. You need two people in charge that are in touch with the day to day workings of an office. These two haven't a clue.
Who else would call a day of protest on a Saturday in Kingston, with a meeting time of midday??? These are the two idiots that agreed to make Saturday a normal working day. They are clearly so out of touch, and most of their advisers too, or they would have reminded them of this schoolboy error. :ncfo :dcfo

not sure what we could do now to get postman back to the union now but i would say the best thing to do would be have all agrement done on national level none of this local agrement stuff one rule for every one . and for the top of the union who agreed the way forward to step down

Pull you up there, driver. The whole country was sold down the river, as were local reps all over the country.
London was at the forefront, but not the first (that was some branches in Scotland I think), they did generate more attention, after all it was the capital city.
Most of the membership wanted to join London and the rest, but it was down to the dithering by HQ (based in London I point out) that we were prevented from doing so. If I remember correctly the CWU refused over and over to take the strikes to a national level.

London have always got a better deal, most of the rest of the country was desperate to go out on strike but we had to go along with the CWU and the (mis)leadership and their slow, pondering approach to IA. And even when a deal was agreed, London went back to their pre-revision when the rest of us who already been fighting for a lot longer (Scotland and NI) where just left to swing in the wind. Maybe if London had been made to do the 2010 revision first then we might not be so bitter but it remains to look like London gets everything they want and screw the rest of us.

the thing that would get me back is a decent office rep who has our interest at heart , and not one that is sat laughing and drinking coffee and eating a sandwich with the doms, and the head men with some balls.

It's simple really.
The union not only needs to be on the side of the members at all times,it also needs to be seen to be on the same side.
Talking about new relationships and being photographed with management,wearing the same suits as management and eating at the same kinds of restaurants as management just enforces the whole "out of touch" image of management collaboration.

The fact is employers tolerate unions and that's it.
Anything else is pure delusion.
If David Cameron were to give Royal Mail the tools to destroy the CWU,they would do so in a heartbeat so it is time the current leadership stopped kidding themselves that they have formed some kind of partnership.
It is them....and it is us....unfortunate...but true.

Not really, it's thoughts like these that cause the large amount of discontent at the moment, things like this need to be sorted out to help restore confidence in the union.

I think you'll find that NI and the Highlands of Scotland pay more than London.
