lets solve cutting off and confrontation
New contract with this stated will solve problems
"When there has been large surges of mail such at xmas, bad weather or special occasions, Postmen/woman should allow up to 2 hours of extended time which is theoretically speaking overtime but is nesseray to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction for customers and maintaining the 1st class letter promise , this also is a statement of commitment on your behalf - all steps will be taken to make sure that your walk is of satsifactory length in a "normal" situation. If you feel its not please contact the "walk length" department and they will send a specialist to come and test your walk "
if u dont like it then dont sign the new contract ?And go find a job with no fluctuations in work volume
Do you ever feel like the cwu wouldnt like this because people wont need the union as much?
cwu .. cwu... cwu......

Re: lets solve cutting off and confrontation
Problem arises when managers bully people into working overtime or working for free. Usually by brandishing the "non completion is willful delay" bollocks or something similar.feduppostie wrote:We have already solved it

Re: lets solve cutting off and confrontation
Well wha tim suggesting is that the overtime is neccesary and kicks in as contractual obligation in times like we are goign thru now!
Instead of having managers beg and bend people into it.
the reason of much of this backlog is no one is prepared to do overtime
and its ruining royal mails reputation i mean even special deliverys are late at the moment
i know the way ive worded it isnt perfect but you know what im saying
SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE AND I DONT THINK VAN SHAIRE IS THE ANSWER

Re: lets solve cutting off and confrontation
what a load of crap, managers would then bully even more, the reason it aint working is because they havent got fxxking clue how to plan anything or use any common sense, they find it easier to harass, intimidate or bribe to get things done.
why should we be forced to do o/time because they have cut too many jobs, overloaded us with work, and basically take the piss out of us?

if the walk has been tested offically and ur happy with it then u are only doing overtime in times of severe backlog like xmas etc .
or is that just taking the piss?

Re: lets solve cutting off and confrontation
There are several reasons why peeps are not doing overtime.
Part Timers with other jobs to go to
Family needs, childcare etc.
Docking of justified overtime by management.
Bullying and harrasment.
Unfair workloads
Post People are knackered
etc etc etc.
This job used to work reasonably well until recent government and management meddling. Get back to basics, bring in new operations to deal with the packet explosion. Start from a base that all contracts are full time, and change the walk set, so that they all justify a full time contract. Pay a liveable salary of £25k per annum. Job and Finish, no cutting off unless falling ill at work. I am part time, but I believe that this company cannot continue to operate successfully by employing so may part time contracts. It is difficult to manage this type of culture. Bring back professionalism into the industry and it will survive.

Re: lets solve cutting off and confrontation
well for a start they would make up a backlog whenever they see fit, thus when they need a walk covering or they forgot to get p/timers rounds prepped, oh its the backlog!, your going to have to work over its in your nonsical contract. My line manager made up a load of crap 2 days before xmas eve telling me that i had to work overtime as my contract - which i dont think he has ever seen, says that i will work overtime due to seasonal demands. In short there already lying, cheating, victimising, why is their a need to give them any more power?

then maybe it should be in the contracttragictramp wrote:well for a start they would make up a backlog whenever they see fit, thus when they need a walk covering or they forgot to get p/timers rounds prepped, oh its the backlog!, your going to have to work over its in your nonsical contract. im sorry ! i dont want to come across like a slave master but i think the compayn just requires people that are prepared to work the extra when the extra comes .
Id rather it was in the contract than not in the contract and being bullied into it.OR having that disgusting feeling that your walk is to big in the first place because the managers not prepared to admit its to big
I know its not easy to solve bullying and horrasment but this is one way to cut out alot
Just abotu every 2nd post in thsi forum is about sumone going on about hwo they have had to stand up to a manager and gelt stressed and sick after it and would rather quit than do it .
Compulsary overtime on special occasions but walks tested by a fair team of testers
NOT YOUR REP AND MANAGER GOING OUT ON A WALK AND TELLING IT CAN BE DONE IN TIME WHEN IT CANT
