Let's Talk About Streaming

I know that many of us have now experienced the phenomena called 'streaming' - whereby the only parts of a walk that are delivered are the first-class and dated pieces of mail. I've seen it happen umpteen times in the past week and was wondering a few things:

- where the hell did the idea come from?
- who authorised it?
- is it an in-house thing or do the instructions come from higher up than the DOM?
- what should we, as posties, say when we are asked to stream mail?
- how is RM getting away with this practise on a wide scale?
- what caused 'streaming' to come about?

Streaming mail is not new. It is the way things were done in the past, before clear office policy was brought in. not as bad as it sounds, as most of the bulk mailings could be delivered over several days. It used to come in with a 'to be delivered between 'such and such a date. and as long as it was all delivered within that time you were fine.
it worked out well, as on the busy days you could concentrate on the important stuff, and on quiet days take out extra of the junk mail.

The problem with streaming is - how the hell do you know what is and isn't first class anymore.
For example - quite thick A4 with 3 second class stamps on it.
Without weighing it and getting one of those guides it is impossible to know if 3 second class stamps adds up to the value to send the thing first class.
I reckon if the mail that has been "streamed" was rigorously checked - people would be sacked for wilful delay.

Mailsort is streamed in our office everyday so that the manager and phg don't have to get of their lazy @rses to do the cut offs that are happening most days.

Not all the time S-P in GMC staff are often told to stream
mech mail (as recently as last night ),but the problem with
that is there can be all sorts of mail in trays being presented,
used to be the case where manager would say 1 first class
letter made a whole tray of 2nd class become 1st class
it's simply down to volumes of mail, it gets a bit busy and they
s..t themselves and start telling you to stream trays that have
got all sorts in them and down to the fact that we now have
less staff to cull the mail properly

Try working in a D.O, i am sick to the back teeth of M.C failing or when they wont clear just send it out to the D.O's outside of workplan
and let the D.O sort the M.C problems for them

It's all the members fault for not flagging it up...honest.
A problem doesn't exist until it's gone to stage 3...in at least 300 offices...in the right areas.
It's called reactive union negotiation.
Wait till the members get screwed over for the appropriate 3 or 4 years and then act...maybe.

Its funny that streaming was abandoned when the clear office policy came in and everything had to go.
But now when thanks to a cut back cock up at xmas we are in the poo all overflow from walks should go out THE SAME DAY via overtime but this is where STREAMING comes back because its free

Well on thurs i was streaming 16 perstops of mail around my frame and god know what i will find tommorrow.

Streaming is a lot of nonsense, cutting is far better .
