sale of royal mail?
hi all just got offered a relay driving job for royal mail in exeter but iv just bin reading about the royal mail being sold to a privatised company next week,as i work for a parcel company at present do you guys think its worth me risking my job for this? im abit hezitant as we are expecting our second child in may and im worried il be one of the first out the door when it comes to the job cuts and striking!!! cheers steve.

Royal Mail is MASSIVE mate and it wont be sold off quickly like a 2nd hand car
It will be broken up into sections and the most profitable areas will go first and this will take some time. So depending on your current job and how you find it i would say that you will be as safe with RM as ANY normal job at the moment.

Ignore us being sold off for the moment,what kind of job is it and is it full time and permanent?
The business is only taking on part timers on short term contracts at the mo so if it's one of them then you 'could' possibly be better of staying where you are.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

iv been offered 30hrs but on a permenant basis and they've said il be doin 40hrs when required because il be expected to cover shifts when people are off sick ect and its specialised mail so il be on call sometimes aswell!!

You really really need double conformation on what your contract says.
RM are very dodgy,what HR says and what you actually do or get are 2 'completely' differnt things most of the time.
