shooting yourself in the foot?

Post by feduppostie »

park and loop is in in my office ( partly anyway)

the bit that it is in has been a complete shambles for many reasons

first and main reason is a combo of the weather and xmas - yes complete madness to bring it in over xmas but everyone wanted their bonus so in it went and to be fair everyone got their bonus before xmas

but having observed the section that has gone in ( I am in it) several things have struck me

one is the complete refusal to believe that these changes are staying, lots of 'don't worry boys things will soon go back to normal' , ' they won't put up with this forever carry on lads' chats among the erm more senior posties

a complete refusal to use trolleys ( cos they make you look like a twat ) yes this was ok during the snow as they could not be used but since the trolleys have been loaded into vans and not used - these posties preferring instead to use bags on the backs (?) some even using bag drops and doing walks as normal while the other half of their P & L does the packets and bags (!!)

Changing loops so they can be done by bags instead of trolleys which takes longer

meanwhile complaining to all and sundry that this new system is unworkable, too heavy and unrealistic - while not actually using the new system

cutting off cos they don't want to go over their time over xmas ( nothing wrong in this I might add) BUT all of the office was going over at Xmas (especially this Xmas) and any other year they too were happy to work till it was done, are they are then using this as a reason to show the new system is not working?

so my question are they shooting themselves in the foot by not even attempting to make it work?

the rest of the office is due in soon if they make it work where will this section stand?

Believe me if I thought it was that unworkable I would say but I can't quite help feeling some people are being deliberately - how can I say this - 'awkward'

truth is my office have secured a brilliant attendance pattern on the back of the revision and personally I don't think the trolleys are anyway as bad as I thought they would be, they beat going out the door with your nose touching your knees, a bit awkward in places but on the whole it is a whole lot easier than carrying the bloody stuff

I know others experiences of P&L will be different and can only comment on my own

your thoughts please

At least you get that, the retards in my office actually voted for a rotating day off and one long weekend off in 6. :arrrghhh

You're right though, they should be doing it with the trollies and doing the loops properly. Then if it doesn't work it's RM's problem, after all it was all their idea.

Changing loops so they can be done by bags instead of trolleys which takes longer
I would of thought that it would go the other way and make it quicker?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

You can understand this...we have seen a lot of changes in RM over the years and a hell of a lot of them have been canned....starburst anybody?....in my opinion this one is here to stay though.

Where is your rep?
The use of the assigned delivery methods is mandatory...twat or not...otherwise it's conduct code.
It says so in both BT2010 and the delivery methods guidelines and your rep can't sign the revision off until everybody is using them.
Believe me if I thought it was that unworkable I would say but I can't quite help feeling some people are being deliberately - how can I say this - 'awkward'
This bit i don't get...
It doesn't sound like they are being awkward at all.
It sounds like they are jumping through hoops to make your managers life easy.
Being awkward would be doing the job properly and letting the revision fall on it's arse if it's a disaster.

More like, The use of assigned delivery methods.... Will result in conduct code.
Sorry Fish, that's my observation of revisions round here, and the blame lies with all 3 sides.
RM, CWU & members.

The blame for this one lies entirely at the feet of the members gb.
The agreement is specific here...one of the few places it is.
Managers are tossers and they will always try it on but unless they are not supplying the trolleys there isn't much else they can do except conduct members....
Have we really got to the point where we are having to ask management to conduct members to get them to use the correct delivery methods?
I'm losing the will to live with some of these idiots. :cuppa

we stopped hct delivery's in our office at chrimbo (ice /snow etc) went back to "bag on back" found it a bit faster to get rid of...hcts walk /stop/engauge brakes/open hct/retrieve bundle/close lid etc etc ...this faffing aroung costs time in my opinion...but it's what they want so do "as directed" if you dont like it then just work to your time! if your manager thinks your pulling one over on him just ask him and a cwu rep to come out on delivery and inform you what you are doing wrong? they wont because they know it's all based on a model week when it's quiet so it's acctually built to fail most of the year from the start

I've considered asking management to:
enforce start times
enforce breaks
enforce no PCOD
enforce bag weights
enforce H&S in the DO

I've lost the will to live.
The more members that are conducted the happier I will be.

Well I was trying to be diplomatic and not too hard on our colleagues .
I can't argue much against your last post, only slight excuse I could use for some members is that they don't react well to threats of performance standards from Doms.
And see the ones " doing it wrong" for want of a better way of putting it, not getting threats and knowing they would get no support from these idiots ( and are likely to be getting harrassed from these as well for being "slow" that they think the only option is to join them.

Same old story staffing chasing time out of the job, cutting corners. Some of the delivery methods are there to make the job easier so why not use them ?

Its just so typical. There are too many fools in delivery. And it is up to the managers to sort things out but they are scare of taking on some people (whilst bullying others) and some are just interested in just getting the job done for the day, and their BONUS, of course.

Having said above, it will take a brave manager to take on people that does a large chunk of the work and understand the job and their rights more thoroughly than others.

Our manager suspended a driver recently - the repercussion is still being felt many weaks after. The bloke might even be paid as it is and we dont use casuals; so the manager has resorted to begging and doing a lot more of the job himself. I worry for him! (Yes, I do have a heart, sometimes)
