Carrying over Annual Leave days

Post by Thunderthighs »

I've got a few days to take from last years leave, 2010, and need the 1st/2nd April off.

Is it reasonable to use last years leave, or will RM's negtaive policy cut in, ie, "This will be from your 2011 leave, sonny boy!"
I think I may already know the answer...

Alternatively, how many days can I carry over to next year too?

Thanks, and Happy New Year to you all!

i have 2 days leave owed, asked the boss if i can carry them over on to after april he said thats ok .the thing im worried about is geeting the time off for the olympics end of july beg aug london 2012,ive promised my 8 year old son i would take him to this once in a lifetime experiance, and im blowed if the petty royal mail bosses will stop me .its pathetic in our office we only have 32 dutys but getting time off is a nightmare,i am the 8th longest serving member in our office and in 15 years in the job this years holidays have not been done on SENIORITY,peoples name have been drawn out in groups of 6 if your names on top youre ok if your number 6 youve had it .surely holidays are based on senoirity its the only and fairest way in my eyes.

Fair if you have seniority I suppose you mean.
Please explain how the same people getting what they want every year, and everybody else getting the scraps is "fair"

Our annual leave is done on a rotational basis, I.E. seniority one year, juniority the next.Seems to work ok with few complaints. Me? I`m in the middle so I end up in the same position whichever way they choose.

i've got a weeks leave from last year 2009-2010 & another 3 days from the previous year still to take. i dont believe they will say u will lose the days cos my dom told me it'll get carried over til its used.

told dom to he can call me early on a warm sunny day to tell me not to come in if he has supplus staff & i would willing to use some of the leave like that. Good for his budget & good for me as i can always make use of a warm sunny day. Also told dom if a following week looks like its going to be warm & sunny, and you have supplus staff, i'd happily take the week off.

Its been a year+ 1/2 still waiting for the call to not come in. looks like i'll have to book the week off myself.

"more if you want with their permission" - is there anywhere this is quoted in an agreement or something that I can print off and use ?

I have 16 days carried over from last year, I've been asking DOM for months now as to when I can use them with no reply, so I have a question...if my DOM doesn't give me any dates, can I tell him that as they're my legal holidays I will be taking all 16 days before march is out. I don't want to risk losing them.

It's common knowledge LL.
Carrying leave into another year

Annual leave should generally be taken in the year that it is due, and the business expects all employees to have at least four weeks away from work every year. However up to one week (or 5 odd days) may be carried over into the next leave year, and up to five days may be anticipated during the last month of the previous leave year. Transfer of leave in excess of these limits requires written permission from the line manager, except that leave that cannot be taken due to sick leave may be allowed in the following year. Where this is granted and would reduce the annual leave taken in a particular leave year to less than four weeks, the individual must also confirm in writing that they are willing to voluntarily forgo their statutory leave entitlement under the Working Time Regulations 1998.
