Overtime rates!

Can't help wondering how many jobs offer overtime rates at less than their employee's hourly rate,because that's what we get after 10 hours overtime! This really only affects me at Christmas but sometimes when you say you're working o/t,friends or family will ask "oh what do you get for that,time and a half,time and three quarters?"
It's almost embarrassing to tell them you can be bought so cheaply!
Now,i realise it's my choice to do it,and that an employer can set whatever rate it likes for overtime unless it falls under minimum wage,but how did this union let it come to this?

This next bit's a bit of a pipe dream(obviously)but with park and loop seemingly such a failure and RM requiring and relying more than ever on people working over their time,surely we should be in a great position to negotiate something a little better, either that or tell them to stick it up their arses!

as far i know it was partly their idea, to stop individuals getting all the OT makes it less attractive for them and shares it out amoungst the whole office and also gives greater chance for part timers to get more hours

I was under the impression that the union like the idea because it discourages people from working excessive OT. In reality all it results in is ghosting of hours ie if you do an hours OT you want to be paid two hours to make it worthwhile.

Its all part of the EU directive which limits you to a max 48 hr week. We have opted out of this but the reduction is supposed to make the extra OT un-attractive. Of course RM gets its labour cheap out of the deal

it was in previous agreements to get you a better pay rise in the past

Its not just the rate these days.
We use to fight over O/T now the managers strugle to cover walks daily and frequently walks have to be done by managers or do not go out at all .

2.5 hours for half a walk +absortion on a different esate miles away from the round at around a total of £17.00 after tax assuming this is your first 10 hours is nothing short of a joke!

Especialy after doing some of these large walks + absorbstion,supply and demand !

Oh then return to office with 739 IS PATHETIC FOR £17.00 ,you are talking a good 3 hours or more =£5.66 a hour! and thats at the first 10 hours !

It is crap and not worth my energy. If you do overtime every day after work you end up about 125 pounds a week off better off. It is not worth it. I even stop doing overtime on floating week off as well.
