Bicycle v P/L

Post by Lincox »

Due to weather conditions and management banning cycle deliveries, used a form of P/L on rounds pairing up to deliver by using golf trolleys. Very sensible taking into account the conditions on the ground. However 3.5 hour bicycle rounds were taking 5 to 5.5 hours taking into account the total of the hours for two people to walk the whole route, walk back reload, etc. and then get back to the S/O
Even taking into consideration the ground conditions and the slower walking pace, there is no way that this form of delivery is efficient as using a bicycle. Back on cycle yesterday and did the whole round in 3.25 hours.
There is no justification for removing cycles from delivery except in severe weather conditions. My only minute injuries have been from collapsing cycle stands. These can be easily remedied by doing away with the existing stand and placing a stronger mail tray on the front of the cycle and attaching two bogie wheels, which can be dropped and raised as necessary during delivery and cycling to and back from the start of the walk. The cost of this both financially and as an aid to greener thinking, must far outway 30,000 new CDVs on the road. As for tackling the problem of delivering Packets which is RMs reason for getting rid of cycles, anything that cannot be put through a letterbox, should now be delivered by specialised packet delivery vehicle roll. Takes weight off the mail delivery, speeds up mail delivery, provides more space for D2Ds (even though we all hate them)
Cycles provide better exercise, take weight off the shoulders and all other pulling/pushing muscles (no jokes DGP). All the cycling staff at our S/O have been absolutley knackered dragging trolleys of mail around and all agreed what a relief it has been to climb back on the bike.

cant tell you how much i and all the other guys hate the hct's. the rounds take way longer, there not the best things to push/drag about, people take the piss out of you, im totally knackerd by the time i get home and to top it off, im going to have to go to the doctors after the new year because sinse i started using this crap system, i now have a constant dull ache on the bottom of my feet (around the arch area), probably due to pounding the streets like a mad man for 5 hours solid. i'll soon be 41 yet im walking like a 71 year old......remind me again, why the f**k am i doing this s**t......? :arrrghhh

We go to P+L soon.
As I understand it you take loops of between 40mins and 1hr from the van and then move to a different location and start again.
At the moment, I can get half my walk on my bike (approx 2hrs) and have some bags dropped off at a secure location which I can load onto my bike and do another 1and half to 2hrs to finish.
How is P+L more efficient than this?
No pulling/pushing trollies and I can ride the dead walking sections
This whole idea is madness!

Had that about 15 year ago but only in my left foot. Absolute agony when it flared up. From my arch down to the ball of left foot felt like it was about to snap. Tried all kinds of treatment, long soaks in radox, them foot roller bead things, new shoes etc. Finally went to a chiropodist who advised to get arch supports in my left shoe. Wear them in both tho as you will feel uncomfortable and unbalanced. Get some good quality ones tho as the cheap ones will eventually collapse on you.

I would imagine anyone that they can find apart from the posties that have to do them. i.e those thousands of managers that haven,t got a real job in the company, that are cast into the role of planners prior to being put out to grass in one of Moya,s next moves.
