Post by music4essex »

I have been on my round for around 5 yrs but I also live on it so i know a lot of folks ,

Well this xmas a lot of folks are coming out and giving me cards and presents and this has been happening a lot this week :Very Happy
With the snow it is taking me a little longer to do my delivery, now do you say sorry cannot stop as management don't like it:oops: or say thanks a few words and on you go.

Essex mum cannot wait for saturday to come I have had enough of this shite of a dom and RM 21yrs and cannot belive I have succumbed to this,
Essex mum you guys at the moment are keeping me sane lol

What's management got to do with it? Are they watching you deliver?

Say Thanks and have a quick chat and on you go, customers know you are busy but its polite to stop and have a quick chat, your dom isnt doing your walk you are, ive done my delivery for 17 years and while i dont live on it i live in the same area my delivery took 4 hours 25 minutes today would have probably been 4 hours but for customers having a chat, have a great Christmas

Shouldn't be a problem - I may book for extended through a heavy day or bad weather but if I am kept talking by my customers wishing to show their appreciation of a job well done then that is MY time and I don't claim for it - after all, at this time of the year the customers are paying me a lot more than Royal mail are !!!

We were told yesterday that our miserable scrooge of a company wouldn't even be standing us a christmas breakfast this year due to budgetary constraints - maybe it would have eaten into their bonuses.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

The problem I've got is all the whisky, wine, chocolates and biscuits I'm given at this time of year - it would be impossible without a van. :Very Happy

I think that the human part of the job by stopping for a quick chat is prob the only thing going for it this year. Ive just slogged around over 6 hrs and prob had half a dozen quick chats (2-4 mins). One old dear was nearly in tears when i told her i was changing walks.

Just carry on girl dont let them ruin your job anymore :dance

"Ive just slogged around over 6 hrs " - The other day my delivery took 8 hours, 9 to 5, and that's after 3 hours sorting.
Too long a day by far and I should have cut off but somehow didn't.

The solution I use for this is if I stop for a 2min chat I then go faster than normal for the next 10mins to make up the time. This works fine so long as you don't go dangerously fast and there is no impact on buisness. Having said that we are talking to our customers here and a lot of them are encouraged to use our services when we are friendly and helpful.

all i can say on this is that the customers on my rural delivery think more of us thaN royal mail. i had a card and pressie off a customer today and in the card she had written" YOU POSTIES ARE TRUELY APPRECIATED , IT IS SUCH A SHAME ROYAL MAIL DONT VALUE THE SPECIAL SERVICE THAT YOU BRING TO US ,THE PUBLIC". So just carry on being the great postie you are after all the bonus off customers is far higher than what royal mail ever dish out.

just say something like this

"cheers for the card but can`t stop due to having to walk at 4mph" :Very Happy

they`ll understand and have a laugh at the same time
