Weather shuts office. Annual Leave days???

Post by Thunderthighs »

The weather has closed our office for 2 days, but no one told PT workers, it was just luck that we were informed before having to get Rudolph et al to get us in!
We were down to work at another office - 12 miles away - which was partially open, but as our office was shut, there were no RM vehicles available to transport us.

SO, after various phone calls and some initial confusion, it appears some full timers at my usual office attended, but were sent home after a few hours on both days.
I did phone on both days, but no one answered the phone, even though I was told there "might" have been a manager manning the sinking Titanic...

What I'd like to know is; Will these 2 days be deducted from our Annual Leave allowance?!
( Still trying to figure out why PT staff weren't informed. They soon phone us at 6.30am on our day off if someone calls in sick etc.)

Thanks in advance...

No it will not be taken of your annual leave, and the reason part-timers were not told is because , they are treated like 2nd class workers. :speak to the hand

Seems to be evidence to confirm this: Text asking to attend am, on Sunday, Voluntarily!!!

Seems someone found my phone number after all...

If you could not make it in due to weather then RM can take away holiday days so long as your statutory leave entitlement is still preserved. In other words RM give above stat min and so can take these days away if you can't make it in.

If the office was closed or people were sent home they CANNOT take away leave OR claim back hours as you were available for work as per your contract.

You are in a grey area as you could not get an answer on phone and can have reasonably assumed the office was closed but did not go in to make sure. Consult the CAB.
