F/T Vacancies and Seniority

Hi if so many part timers in the office are being made up to full time is it decided solely on seniority or are there any other circumstances where a part timer can be passed over and the f/t vacancy given to someone with less seniority like for example if you cant drive also if you are a reserve and you are covering a specific floating duty for that week can you be forced to do a different duty altogether because the walk holder is working his day off?

If the vacant duty does not require a specific skill then it should be done on seniority as in the Way Forward agreement.

The other one is a little more difficult - if you are a reserve (covering different duties) then I think they can put you on any duty you have the skills for as long as they treat your fairly. However, if you are a floater (covering a set 5 duties on the duty holders day off) then you are the duty holder for that day and they shouldn't move you without good reason. At my office its common courtesy to ask the floater if its ok if they move them so you can work your day off. However in other placed they don't do this.

Sometimes the floater may need to be moved so as to enable ALL OPG's to be on a duty they are trained for. My floater has been moved at times when Ive worked my day off but onto a duty they are trained for but I am not.

i think it is called felexability :) you are paid for 8 hours work you will do as i say :) oh and you are lucky to have a job :)

I havent done a rural for over 2 years. What the harm of occasional moving/short term moving so as to ensure the person working their day off is on a duty they are trained for? I hope its not being advocated that somebody should have do a duty blind in order to work their day off.

If it becomes week in week out then I would suggest training of OPGs who wish to work their day off.

I think you'll find that in my office nobody gets any training any more, no towns, not rurals and not firms............just given a map printed off Google and told to get on with it.

One day training in my D.O on a urban round used to be three in the good old days.

That is reality at my D.O
