Bag Drops

Can anyone on here point me to any guidance as to van drivers dropping off pouches for cycling posties ?
I know that there are limits as to pouch weights and that they should be left in a secure or out of sight location, but is there anything laid down as to how they should be prepared, no bundles or packets bulging out of them or anything like that ?

Not in our office no basically cram as much into a bag as you can as long as the driver can pick it up.If any packets wont fit into the bag we just leave them on top of the bag and they ram them in the box with the bag.Quite often see someone taking a run from 10 feet and barging the drop box door shut!

I ve done a few bag drops and when the mail gets heavy its a nightmare scrapping your finger trying to get the bags in. The free standing box, If the bag fits at all, i ve found pushing it in and up on the hinged side seems to work. Often ive had to un pack the bag and just stack the bundles and packes in with the bag on top.

I try and manage my bags reasonably for my driver since he moaned about their weight - now he moans that there are too many of them. And something about octopuses. Apart from that, I like him.

If you have 11kg in them then unless you're delivering a fridge the chances are nothing would be bulging out of them.
Yes you may get the odd over sized packet/tube thingy but that can be taken out at the bag and manually put in the box.

This is a new one to me Drivers moaning about bag weights ,our office mostly walks no cycles,for drop bags you are lucky if the driver turns up on time ,most sit in the van ,you have to get in the van to take your bags out,then driver goes ,without eer moving from nice warm van.

My driver did that the other day, how I laughed as I stood at the box in the snow for 20 minutes trying to open it to no avail as the bags had got stuck up against the lock inside.

thats what makes it fun .... serves yourself right for over filling the bags

on a serious note i get on with the guys who`s bags i drop off , i`ve even given them my mobile for when they need extra bags inbetween bag boxes on really busy days so i`ll just stop what i`m doing and get the bag to them so they not waiting .

reason being is that i`ve done walks and theres nothing worse than rushing around only to find you driver hasn`t dropped your bag off .

What prompted my question was pouches left for me bulging with bundles and packets hanging out of them such that it's a right ordeal carrying them to and from the van with nothing falling out, and absolutely no chance of just picking them up by the strap.

Get the manager to break them down,it will soon stop after that.

just think of the postman that has to carry it . you can either deliver it as it is or ask for it to be broke down but bare in mind the manager can ask you to break it down into two bags if he wishe`s . or if the postman breaks it down he can put a time and place on the bag lable and you`ll have to meet him between bag boxes .

it is christmas afterall so everyone will have more mail to carry .

"just think of the postman that has to carry it" - no, for the postman it's just lifting from the bag drop site onto the front of the bike, whereas for me it's carrying it some distance from the office to my van then some distance from the van up a drive to where I drop it off - that's my problem.
And how do you know you don`t work in same office as me ?
