on SL- summoned to a manager meeting

like the title says, im currently on sick leave and i have just literaly 5 minutes ago recieved a special delivery letter which states that my manager wants to see me tomorrow morning at 11.30 for a fact finding meeting, could someone let me know if they are supposed to give me more notice than this as there is no way i can make it tomorrow due to transport problems , surely i have to have more notice than 24 hours as i need to prepare etc

72 hours notice I would have thought, but as your on sick leave I dont think you have to go in. Decline it in writing.

If you are on sick leave and cannot make it in to your office then you can ask them to come to your house or
they can hold the interview over the phone. They cannot make you attend your DO when you are sick.
If you feel you can attend your office but you want a union rep or a witness then you can ask for a
postponement of the interview until the said witness is available to attend with you.
If your manager will still be at the office then phone him and suggest the ycome to you, phone
or that you cannot attend at such short notice because of transport, because you are ILL or because
you want sme one present at the interview. Managers do work like this from time to time and they may
not have thought about your situation, the weather or the lack of transport.

as long as you phone them and tell them you carnt make it there is nothing they can do then ring your rep and get them to get you a home visit

Nows the time to get them to do a home visit, but when they get there make them stand outside whilst you stand the other side of the door in the warm. Light a big fire if you have one and warn them that due to your illness it would not be in their best interests to come inside. Dont think the interview would last long, do you?

If you are off sick and are signed off by your doctor then you need do nothing other than ignore the letter and send in a complaint of B&H - after all you are off sick.

If you are not yet signed off by your doctor on a sick note (yes, ok, as in fit note but unable to work for the pedantic ones ) then get down to your doctors asap and show him the letter and still send in a complaint of B&H because of the stress your manager has caused you - which is evident by your posting here....

If you are really worried about it - contact your union branch office (or your rep if u have his number) for advice - then phone your manager tomorrow and tell him you cannot make the meeting and remind him you are off sick and ask him to post a copy of a B&H form to you by special delivery.

At the end of the day don't stress about it - your manager is just trying it on.


edit - at no point do you need to offer a "home visit" option. If your manager really wants you into work for a meeting and you agree to it, get him to fund taxi fares both ways (and sign your OT docket for the time you are there *cough*)
But if you do decide to go in for a meeting ensure you have a union rep present (or colleague) - Your manager must allow time to arrange that.
