holidays

im trying to book a holiday for next june. my family have all got the time off from work but i havnt. i cant book any holidays because our office hasnt done the holidyas yet. the manager started it 3 months ago, it took him 2 / 1/2 months to ask around 15 people of their choices. now hes said hes not doing it until january.this is a joke. im around number 50 on the list and this year they decided they will go to everyone individual in order of who gets theirs first. it changes every year next year ill be number 80 prob then after that number 1 etc. anyway, i rly need to book a holiday what can i do. our rep knwos about this and told me to book my holiday but managers are c***s ...fact.

I'd just go ahead and book your hols then when he says you can't have them, fight back with the holiday sheet should've been done in October not your fault can't wait forever!! That's what some have done in our office cause our Manager can't use a computer and the sheet is still doing the rounds.

Am am just SO with you on this.... last year the holiday sheets didn't get finalised until the Thursday before the holiday year started. The manager HATES doing it and 3 or 4 people couldn't care less so miss all the deadlines despite all the threats of having their holiday allocated for them... the manager wouldn't really do it and they know it. For the people that need holiday in the first few months its a nightmare especially with booking flights... the later you do it the more it costs. Our holiday sheets aren't even out yet and probably won't be till the New Year. I'm just under half way seniority wise but I've booked my flights after giving the manager due warning along with hassling him so he knows the score. I've always got what I want (all off peak so to speak!) so theres never been a problem.

I'd like to see this process formalised all over RM so all holiday sheets come out at the same time and due back at the same time and then if there are people that haven't submitted them then they WILL have their holiday allocated at the end. FAIRS FAIR!

Our holidays get done a 'YEAR' in advance lol, so have already done winter leave for 2011, and each year your 'summer' holidays 3 weeks get move forward 6 weeks or is it 4 weeks?, anyway not a bad deal as you might get the first 3 weeks in june this year, followed by the last week in june and the first 2 weeks in july you get the picture.

If I follow that correctly I'm not sure I like that idea... I want holiday when I want it! I for instance take all my holiday in the Winter months i.e first 3 and last 3 months of the year... hate/don't have leave in the Summer.

No year starts april 1st, til 31 march, we are allocated 3 weeks april till end of september then you can pick a week for winter apart from the 3 weeks of christmas 'presure'. You can always swap weeks with other people if possible, O know its not perfect but when you have 200 staff all wanting end of july of it wont work there has to be some give and take.

Put like that it doesn't sound too bad... don't like the sound of have to find somebody to swap with though.... people here would hog all the decent time then swap 'for a fee'!
