Day off on xmas day!

In our office all the reserves have been given xmas day as their day off. Absolute disgrace most weeks of the year a reserve cant get a saturday off for love nor money but as soon as gaffers realise they wont have to give us a day in leiu, bingo! merry xmas n thanks for all your hard work! NOT!! any other offices got the same problem?

Why won't they have to give you a day in lieu ?
If your rest day falls on a Public Holiday you'll get that day back

another thread running on this suggests no day in lieu, union still looking at it. Im in the same boat, thoroughly disgusted, asked to work every sat but stolen from for this one. ANGRY.

Xmas day is classed as a non-service day rather than a public holiday. we get extra bank holidays for xmas day n boxing day being on a sat n sun so rm wont give you a day in leiu. if your day off is monday or tuesday you get a day in leiu. My argument is that the managers have manipulated the days off to take advantage of this and shafted the reserves to save money

...... and you're right, it is a rip-off for the floating reserves. As well as the manager saving money, it also eliminates their problem of getting your rest day covered. It's a sharp move, and i think the union will struggle to get anything out of it, but we'll just have to wait and see.

It's my long weekend next weekend so I lose a day, it was the same for me last xmas (4 week rotation).

You know what to do, next time you need a lieu day just knock instead and get the day back.

Aside from the whether you agree with the unions position on the whole lieu day/non-service day issue they should not in my opinion be allowing Royal Mail to move whole blocks of reserves on to the Saturday off just to save the company a few bucks and f**k the reserves over.
That is taking the piss of the highest order.

My day off is every saturday and am slightly annoyed as its classed as an inservice day. Missed out last year too on the day in lieu but not all that bothered. Now if i was one of these reserves i'd be fuming & try get everyone to cut off if the delivery not complete.

TBH, if my scheduled day off was a non service day, I'd be a bit pissed off, but think it's just swings & roundabouts, but to be moved to a non service day? And just to save cash? I'd be ranting at the manager ( little good it would do me ), but this is just another in a catalogue of perfectly legal, but morally repugnant proceedures that RM specialise in....btw, how many screws have had their day off changed to Xmas day? Now there's a money saver!

If the reserves are covering a duty they should get that duty holders day of.

Our office did that when the strikes were on, changed all their days off to the strike day, great for RM until the strike was called off - And they had no staff available LOL

We all know this is the game RM play so are we surprised? No.

Next time they ask a favour to swap days off stick this back in their face.

Christmas is just the start of it, you can expect the same thing to happen the following saturday on New Years day
