I am a part timer on a 30 hour contract, and I was working six hours a day. Since the revision has come in, I have now become a floater, and I work three eight hour shifts. As you have probably guessed, that means working 24 hours, instead of 30!
I was told by the union rep that this was not a problem, as I am on a 30 hour contract, they cant take hours off me, and they have to pay me for 30 hours, even if I only work 24.
What I want to confirm is, is this true? Can they take the fact that I am now only working 24 hours as somehow being an acceptance of this, and reduce my pay? Can they do this?
Im really worried, as if they reduce my contracted hours, I may lose my house.

Not unless it states in your contract that they can, have a read of it. If not then in order to reduce your hours paid they would need to change you over to a new contract

The agreement states that no part timers will be forced to lose hrs so your rep is right in that respect.
But as coxie says check your contract but i very much doubt there is anything in there which says they can cut your hrs whenever they want,but then again this IS Royal Mail.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

My contract simply states that my weekly hours of attendance will be 30 hours, that's it!

You really think they will allow that.
If something smells off it is usually off.
I would delve deeper and get some firm assurances on your "new" contracted hours or otherwise.

If they send you, or ask you to sign a new contract, don't without checking it (CAB will help if you ask) - they might then say you voluntered to reduce your hours
