I have been told by my manager that The national xmas arangements mean I have to work my day off and my union man seems to think this is fine is it ? I work in east kilbride office we have tuesday the 28 off in dec and tuesday jan 4 . And because we have those days we are being told we don't have a day off now and we have to work it .I suspect this is false can anyone help can I be forced to work my day off.

It would depend what you think your day off is.
If you are currently a floater or a reserve without a regular fixed or rotating day off, it wouldn't be impossible for your manager to decide that Tues will be your day off.
You will be owed a day in lieu for this.

it is utter bullshit mate, for a start you can't be forced to do more than your contracted hours, this is royla fail dom coming the c*** as he has not enough staff to cover your duty

Can't force you to work over 40 hours, however as the other chap said if you are a reserve they can set you any day off for that week and if it happens to fall on the bank holiday or non service days then thats just tough s**t but if you work the 40 hours then you are entitled to your rest day and working your day off is your choice.

Tue 4th Jan will be a Bank Holiday(substitute)....if it's your rest day you will get it back.

You don't have to work another time to cover these Tuesdays - they are statutory BANK HOLIDAYS. Do you work to cover any other bank holidays in the year? Tell him he's a Cu@T

3.4 As agreed in 2004, people will not be required to make up hours they would have worked arising from the bank holidays or non USO days. Therefore people normally scheduled to work on Saturday in the provision of USO collection and delivery services will not be required to attend on 25 December or 1 January and not be required to make up the hours (i.e. there will be no claw back)

We are not getting our rotating day off next week, and the following week as I understand it our day off has been changed to Christmas Day in order to get us to work the full five days Monday to friday irrespective of what our normal rotating day would have been.
Part time staff have been told that we have to work 40 hours per week over the next two weeks, no consultation, no option, agreed supposedly by the union.

Pin your rep to the wall and find out if he mistakenly thinks it's agreed at local level.
When you find out get the members together and decide your next move.

The following part of the Christmas arrangements document may be useful

3.5 Rest days will apply in line with normal year round arrangements. Attendances may be varied by local agreement to take account of workload forecasts and service requirements. Where workload requires people can volunteer to work their normal rest day in return for a day in lieu or scheduled attendance. People required to work an additional attendance on a bank holiday, will be paid overtime or credited a day’s holiday in lieu.

If you are reserves then you dont have much chance but if you are either
a floater or have your own duty then your Dom is talking cr*p.
Your day off should rotate as normal regardless of time of year and if your
dom is trying to change it then I suggest that you all put in separate grievances
against him.
