I feel my office is not up to scratch when it comes down to health & safety. I mentioned earlier in a thread that the scales for weighing bags and HCT's have been removed to make space, in my eyes this is unacceptable. I've been down the reps case about this, but nothing has been resolved.

Snow in the east of scotland have had it worst (edinburgh, fife, and perth) with up to 3 or even 4 days of non delivery last week. Half the yard is still full of snow and the dom should be doing something about this by using the Royal Mail - Severe Weather Decision Tool. I think the dom is hiding the fact the yard needs to be cleared so as vans can get into the yard and load up, but can't. Their should be some sort of contingency plan but theres not...i just don't feel safe going into the yard anymore with so much snow, ice and vans parked so close to each other...it only takes one slip, fall, or collision with a van or person in the yard before something is done about this mess (or probably not).

My experience of the Royal Mail - Severe Weather Decision Tool is different to yours, it gives a clear and definitive answer to some of the questions that RM management try to put onto delivery staff. it might still be vague but it is still 1000% better than trusting some dimwit who wants to put pressure on you. if the snow is deeper than 1.5cm or compacted and you haven't been supplied with spikies then you don't go out "SIMPLES".... try telling that to a DOM without the tool. this tool will benefit us all if you can get DOM'S to use the right data. By the way is it an offence to falsify a risk assessment as this might keep RM managers on the right path.

I first heard about it it last Tuesday or Wednesday, our Rep had to write to DOM and go into disagreement before they acted on it.

Yard safety was a major problem last year. To improve safety this year a national gritting and snow clearance contract has been arranged covering 760 Royal Mail sites provided by three Contractors and a monitoring and reporting process has been put in place to ensure yards , loading bays, access roads, walkways and car parks on Royal Mail Group's premises are cleared of snow and ice and maintained in as safe a condition as possible.

At what cost I wonder.
5% or 10% of duties to be taken out, to improve effiency to pay for it.
Or just added to the rest of spirralling costs, so the need for privatisation to save us.

The contractor has been a waste of money in our D.O.
For the first 3 days of heavy snow they couldn't make it....... because of the weather.
Now they just turn up and move snow from one place to another randomly.
Both the staff car park and the yard are still a mess.
