Agreed walking pace during wintry weather

is there an agreed pace you are supposed to deliver in these icy conditions? i only ask as there doesn't seem to be any consideration taken in our office, the majority of roads are fine, but we walk on pavements and deliver down paths that are icy but are still only expected to take 3.30hrs! I reckon the weather conditions can add a further 20 mins at least on to your walk time which isn't being taken into account.

my duty usually takes between 3 hours 40 and 4 hours to do but this week been taking over 5 hours,and absolutely fecked,hopefully once I see my wage packet that will put a smile back on my face

There is no agreed walking pace in the snow,in the rain or in any weather conditions.

Only a moron would still expect you to complete in 3hr 30 in these conditions.
I did just under half my walk today in 3 hrs. And it doesn't help when all the drop boxes are frozen shut.

on monday i delivered one street with approx 95 drops,it normally takes 45 mins to an hour,it took 2hrs 20 mins and i was knackered at the end,yesterday, my duty as 575 calls,managed about 400 in just under 4 hrs,got such a backlog that was 5 bags of letters only,no flats,no packets,no specials,no recorded,if we don't (or someone)do a delivery on sunday can't see how i'll catch up before xmas,got 6 dropbags under my fitting,god knows how many trays of flats,best about it all still doing double prep and ips!! once i've filled my fitting to saturation point pull some out and go out and do a bit of delivery,management either haven't got a clue how to sort it out ,or just ain't bothered,virtually got a york of (small) packets for every duty in the office,plus umpteen yorks of large packets for drivers,drivers unable to cope with specials and tracked items alone,never seen anything like it in 14 years,if we hadn't had the bad weather we couldn't have coped,RM have totally under estimated xmas pressure this year!!

all you can do is a much as you feel safe in doing. if you can only manage to do some of it so be it royal mail say your safety is the most important thing in the job the late we got in the post said so

I agree. I would also like to add that if a customer has not cleared there pathway of snow or stairs leading to the letterbox and looks to risky, don't attempt delivery. Don't forget to wear the spikies aswell.

CUT OFF. Leave the bottom row in. same scenario get the mail out of the office make sure all walks are covered then managers can go home with a don't care attitude.

I've been put on what should be a bike round, massive gaps between houses and lots of dead walking, which means it's been taking me 5 hours + to complete the round.

It doesn't help that nobody delivered anything on Monday so I've been playing catche up which in these conditions is insane.

I took 1 bag back yesterday as the manager said I had to take it all but anything I brought back would have to be done the next day as "I would have to catch up".

Looking forward to the arguments today when I tell him I'll be bringing some back again as my knees and ankles are killing me and no way am I doing 2+ hours overtime every day.
