absorbing and maximum delivery span
say you absorb 30 calls taking you 15 min from start to finish, does that count towards your 3 1/2 hour delivery span? then making it 3.15 left as a delivery span

I would say yes, others on here will come on and say no,just hold on for that.
National agreement is 3:30hrs-2010 agreement with your office revision will mean more, let's say it's 4hrs.
You should then only do outdoor work for those hrs.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: absorbing and maximum delivery span
In theory yes. But in reality sometimes you will go over that 3.5hrs.
Question in mind is how long can one be with p&l as walking deliveries are 4hrs and 30mins for packets?
We got out the door at 8 and were told to walk outdoors untill it hit 2:15pm (backlog due to the snow). 6hrs of delivery can they do that?

Re: absorbing and maximum delivery span
By the fact that an individual can 'absorb' means that you are saying to your boss, "I don't have enough mail on outdoor to take me to my 3.5 del span. Therefore, as I only have 3.10mins work I can take 20 minutes extra". This must include getting from AtoB too unless you're ferried from one to the other.spilie wrote:say you absorb 30 calls taking you 15 min from start to finish, does that count towards your 3 1/2 hour delivery span? then making it 3.15 left as a delivery span

naw dave, say your ready to leave office at 9.15 and your finish time minus break is 13.20 then even if you have 3.30 worth of work on your own delivery that still leaves 20 mins, what they are doing is saying you take such and such as you have time, so my question is does that 15 or 20 min absorbtion count towards your 3.30 maximum delivery span

Re: absorbing and maximum delivery span
The problem is all these new agreements are so vague, wasn't it something like "nothings agreed, till everythings agreed"?!!
well,on the one hand, your advised that if your still working 'over the shoulder' then walks should be planned at 3 1/2 hours, meaning it could take longer, just as long as it's not a regular occurence.
But the managerial joker in the pack,is undoubtedly "all paid hours to be utilised" they see this as an opportunity to 'bolt on' some lapsed duty, rather than absorbing it into your 3 1/2 hour workload.
In my opinion, the union seem to of bottled this issue, with a token "just work to your time" response, placing local reps in an impossible position,Spilie,it sounds like unfortunately you have capacity/spare time available, but as an office i think you should decide if you'd prefer to prep more AG duties,or spend more time on delivery.
As long as you can get finished on time,i'd let someone else worry about it,good-luck mate.

Re: absorbing and maximum delivery span
Yes you do but like the walking speeds and the call rates and the IWT...it's just a planning value not a maximum that's why it's called the Optimum delivery span.POSTMAN wrote:No!cow post wrote:In theory yes. But in reality sometimes you will go over that 3.5hrs.

You have an agreed outdoor del span.
The 3.30 with a bag on your shoulder maximum delivery span is a health and safety maximum agreed by the union.
The health and safety maximum delivery span for a LWT is considered to be 6 Hrs by Royal Mail although i don't think the union have agreed to this.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: absorbing and maximum delivery span
cheers robd my thoughts are the same as yours, tosspot managers adding extra to the 3.5 hr maximum and the union using that blind eye again
